GMOM is a free, large-scale portable dental clinic for low- and no-income adults who are unable to pay for dental care. Over two days, volunteer dentists and other dental health professionals provide dental care and oral health education to more than 2,000 patien

ts, highlighting the barriers to available dental treatment for citizens of Georgia. An outreach program of the Georgia Dental Association, GMOM is funded by the Georgia Dental Association Foundation for Oral Health, a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization. The goals of the Georgia Mission of Mercy project are:

•EDUCATE patients and their family members about the importance of optimal oral health and securing a dental home.

•PROVIDE immediate, free access to dental care for 2,000 low- and no-income adults, while placing a high priority on patients suffering from dental infections or pain and making referrals to local dentists in their home communities.

•RAISE AWARENESS of the barriers to available dental treatment for low-income Georgia adults.

•CHALLENGE patients, policymakers, and dental professionals to work together to improve the oral health of all Georgians. An affirmative vote of the Georgia Dental Association House of Delegates established GMOM in January 2010. To appropriately conduct and raise funds for GMOM, the GDA also established the 501(c)(3) charitable organization Georgia Dental Association Foundation for Oral Health. The Foundation was created after an affirmative vote by the GDA House of Delegates in July 2010. A second event was held in metro Atlanta in 2013. A third event is scheduled for June 19-20, 2015, at the Georgia National Fairgrounds and Agricenter in Perry. The Foundation and Task Force works in concert with the America’s Dentists Care Foundation to conduct GMOM events. This Foundation, often called America's MOM or AMOM, was established in 2008 to make quality equipment available for MOM events. Each state that sponsors a MOM event joins AMOM for the purpose of acquiring, maintaining, and shipping the expensive dental equipment needed to host a state-run MOM event.
