“With gas at over $4 a gallon, groceries and other staples becoming more and more out of reach by the day, and housing prices increasingly out of reach for most of us, it’s getting harder and harder for workers and retirees to make ends meet. Enough is enough of inflation continuing to outpace wages and retiree cost of living adjustments! It’s past time for a fair contract for state workers! It’s past time for retiree COLAs that keep up with the cost of living!”
--MSEA-SEIU President Mark Brunton

Inflation jumped to a three-year high in May as the Iran war continued to fuel higher energy prices.

Citing his proven record of standing up for Maine’s working families and retired workers, we’re recommending Troy Jackson as our first choice for governor in the June 9, 2026, primary election. Because this primary election will be decided by ranked-choice voting, we also are recommending Shenna Bellows as our second choice for governor. True friends of working families and retirees!

Nurses stand with Troy Jackson for Governor because he fights for reproductive rights, patient safety and universal healthcare.

"As to the future, Platner finally embodies what Democrats should have preached for decades: that working people should have the right to organize and form unions, a right they lost over decades as corporate and political interests successfully separated the national party from those it once represented."

Controversies aside, Graham Platner's message threatens everything the ruling class has foisted on the rest of us for the past 45 years.

MSEA-SEIU members who work for MaineDOT met with Troy Jackson, our first-choice candidate for governor, May 29th in Bangor to discuss the importance of strengthening quality public services in Maine. Members told Troy their department is understaffed and underpaid, and that the recruitment and retention of workers remains a real problem. Some reported plowing over 24 hours straight at times last winter as a result.

“We’re gonna raise people’s salaries so they do want to work for the state of Maine,” Troy Jackson said after listening to our members’ stories. “I know the value of paying people so they can have a career.”

Troy Jackson is a champion of closing the state employee pay gap; he sponsored the initial legislation that led to the 2020 State of Maine Market Study Report documenting that state workers are underpaid 15%, on average, compared to our public and private sector counterparts throughout New England. Troy also twice sponsored legislation making economic issues subject to binding arbitration only to have Governor Mills veto it both times.

“I’m honored to get your first-place ranking” in the June 9th primary election for governor, Troy Jackson said. “This race, I want to fix the problems that you’ve been having for a long time. It’s so important to have someone from the working class in this office.”
