Check out our new video featuring graduates of the Union Construction Academy of Maine and People’s Inclusive Welding who are now in apprenticeships with the National Elevator Industry Educational Program (NEIEP).

The UCA partners with building trades unions to provide basic construction and safety training to prepare diverse groups of workers for union careers earning good wages and excellent benefits.

Can’t make it to the Tuesday practices but wish you could sing with the Maine Labor Chorus? Now is your chance! The Chorus will be holding our first “retreat” on Sunday morning, October 18, at the Solidarity Center in Brewer. Everyone is welcome to come and sing.

The retreat will run from 9:30 to 1:30 including a pot-luck lunch at 12:30. Several of us will be staying later to canvas the area for our labor-endorsed candidates. So come and sing!

New York-based union leader quoted in a Maine Senate attack ad sends a “cease and desist” threat to the PAC, demanding the spot be pulled down

The Teamsters official is quoted in the GOP ad as slamming Troy Jackson’s health care plan. He says he didn’t comment on Jackson’s plan and was “shocked” to see the quote in the ad.

The ad quotes a union official slamming Democrat Troy Jackson’s healthcare plan. He told NBC News he never commented on Jackson’s plan and was “shocked” to see the quote.

Susan Collins' corporate lobbyist husband Tom Daffron worked as a union buster on the 1987-88 International Paper Strike in Jay. In an interview with Bowdoin College in 2009, Daffron said he left his job at Republican Senator Bill Cohen’s office to work for International Paper as its Director of Government and Public Relations “for nine or ten months” in 1988.

“The first time I left was in 1988, I went to work for International Paper,” said Daffron. “And I went there for nine or ten months, and we had a big issue up there, big fight on decertifying the union and all that kind of stuff, there were all kinds of strikes going on and it was nasty business. I worked up there for a little less than a year.”

Susan Collins’ lobbyist husband Tom Daffron has received a lot of attention for securing over $76 million in federal contracts, with much of it coming from agencies that Collins oversees.
