With the rapid expansion of legal gambling across the United States young people are encountering forms of gambling and risk taking that many adults in their lives may be unaware of. This introductory training, designed for any adult wanting to learn
more about youth gambling will define the problem and provide practical first steps for those interested in community change. An examination of resources and basic prevention strategies, along
with understanding the risk factors will help participants:

-Define youth gambling
-Differentiate types of screen time and their risk factors
-Identify capacity building strategies rooted in prevention

Speaker: James Syphax James serves as the Problem Gambling Prevention Coordinator for ADEPT Educational Institute of Maine,
in that role he supports both Maine Problem Gambling Services and the New England PTTC. James is an Internationally Certified Prevention Specialist (ICPS,) has served on the National Council on Problem Gambling prevention committee and Ohio’s Problem Gambling Advisory Board. In addition to his work in prevention James holds chemical dependency treatment credentials in Ohio
and has worked as both an inpatient SUD and outpatient MAT counselor.

Brief Overview: Uncertainty happens! Many organizations have been in a situation where they felt unprepared and were unsure how to adapt or adjust quickly to something new. Funding cuts, tragedy in your community, or news that changes quickly. This session will cover adaptation principles and specific strategies such as contingency planning. Participants will learn to apply the contingency planning process to adjust programs, budgets or mindsets, and they will learn from each other.

Agency teams are strongly encouraged to attend to get the most from the session, and to have their own challenge to work with during the sessions.

Audience: This is an Advanced Level training and is designed for people who are able to help make change at their agency to help them design a plan for their specific needs.

After spending more than 25 years as an executive for non-profits and start-ups, Francis is uniquely positioned to help organizations collaborate and identify opportunity. He has successfully partnered with leaders and teams to improve their skills, solve complex problems, conduct research, grow financial and programmatic resources, and engage partners to work together toward common goals. He offers individual coaching, team development, and analytics for organizational performance improvement. He is also a facilitator and coach for The Complete Leader Program.
