Morgan Heckler Foundation is being established to celebrate the spirit of our son, friend, and teammate, who lost his life as a result of fentanyl poisoning. In his 22 years, Morgan touched the lives of many through his kindness and generosity, and it is our objective to encourage and enable people aspiring to fully embrace life, just as he did. Morgan Heckler Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization registered in Pennsylvania.

What if carrying NARCAN® was as normal as carrying your keys?

In Fall 2025, EMHF partnered with Bloomsburg University to distribute 1,000 NARCAN® keychains to first-year students - each one holding a life-saving dose.

In 2026, we’re building on that momentum.

This year, 1,000 BU freshmen will receive our new EMHF NARCAN® carry cases - discreet, portable, tough and designed for everyday life. Clip it to your keys, bag, or belt loop and take it anywhere. Each case also includes a QR code with step-by-step emergency guidance.

Why does this matter?

➜ Coming soon: you’ll be able to get your own case.
➜ For every case purchased, we’ll donate one to a harm reduction organization.

Who are the victims of fentanyl poisoning in the U.S.?

Recent nationwide data show fentanyl overdose deaths hit some groups especially hard:

◆ Adults ages 35–44 have the highest risk, accounting for 28% of fentanyl deaths—far above their share of the population.
◆ People ages 25–34 make up another 23%.
◆ Men are especially impacted, making up about 68% of all cases—over four times as many as women.
◆ Black Americans have the highest overdose death rates, followed by Indigenous/Native American and White populations. Asian Americans experience much lower rates.
◆ Older adults (age 55+) are seeing rising numbers, but youth and those over 65 remain a small share.

These disparities show why it’s so important for communities to raise awareness, expand prevention efforts, and provide support—especially for those most at risk.

Narcan can quickly reverse an opioid overdose and help restore breathing. More and more people in our neighborhoods are carrying it and knowing what it is and how it works is an important safety skill.

Narcan is the brand name for naloxone. It's commonly available as a nasal spray and is designed for everyday people to use in an emergency.

Opioids slow breathing by attaching to receptors in the brain. Narcan works by blocking those same receptors, often restoring normal breathing within minutes.

Narcan only works when opioids are involved. It will not reverse overdoses from alcohol or stimulants, and it is safe to use even if you are not sure opioids are present.

Opioid-related harm affects families, workplaces, campuses, and communities. Increasing access, training, and awareness can help save lives.

Education + Easy Access = Saved Lives. 🎗️✨

I'm incredibly proud of the work we're doing at the E. Morgan Heckler Foundation (EMHF) to help reduce fentanyl poisoning. Our mission is simple: make carrying Narcan as common and practical as carrying your house keys. 🗝️🎒

Here is how we've been taking action:

- 1,000 Narcan Keychains distributed to first-year 2025 students living on campus at Bloomsburg University (Morgan's alma mater).
- 170 Narcan Keychains distributed to Greek Life students following a vital fentanyl-awareness presentation.

🔊 The Big Takeaway: In our anonymous survey with the Greek life students, 70% said they would regularly carry Narcan if they had a discreet way to do it. When you give people the right education and tools, they want to protect their community.

We've been working hard at the E. Morgan Heckler Foundation (EMHF) to help reduce fentanyl deaths, and we've learned something important.

We started by speaking in high schools. We reached a couple and made an impact, but it was slow to scale. Meanwhile, the crisis hasn't slowed down. Over 54,000 lives lost in 2024, about 150 people every day.

There is some progress. Deaths dropped 25% in 2024, and a big reason is Narcan - an overdose reversal medication that works about 95% of the time if used quickly.

Here's what really stood out to us: thousands of lives each year are saved not by professionals, but by everyday people who happened to have Narcan, "just in case".

That's why we're changing our focus.

We want to get Narcan into as many hands as possible - and make it easy to carry "just in case."

We've created a small, discreet case so you can carry Narcan with you wherever you go. And for every case purchased, we'll donate one to organizations working on the front lines.

Naloxone (AKA Narcan) is saving more lives than ever before.

Each year, thousands of people survive opioid overdoses because naloxone is widely available to first responders and communities. Check out the rising impact:

2015: ~3,000 - 6,000
2016: ~5,000 - 8,000
2017: ~8,000 - 12,000
2018: ~12,000 - 18,000
2019: ~20,000
2020: ~75,000 (EMS-reported naloxone administrations)
2021: ~74,000 (EMS-reported naloxone administrations)
2022: ~74,000 (EMS-reported naloxone administrations)
2023: 75,000 - 85,000 (estimate)
2024: 85,000+ (estimate as of mid-year)

Hello everyone, it’s been a while!

Over the past year, Amy and I have been focusing on some issues that have distracted our efforts from the foundation.

In May 2025, the trial for the guy who provided the drugs that led to Morgan’s death took place. After a 5-day trial, the jury found him guilty of distributing a controlled substance resulting in death or serious injury, and distribution of a controlled substance. It was a slam dunk with the jury returning its verdict within 2 hours.

On Tuesday, October 28th, U.S. Middle District Judge Matthew W. Brann sentenced the defendant to 22 years in federal prison with no possibility of parole. He was taken from the courtroom to prison that night.

Last January, I caught the flu. It quickly turned into pneumonia. On January 2nd, I was admitted to the hospital. Then I got really sick. I spent the next 2+ months in Phoenixville and Reading hospitals. On March 11th, I was transferred to Bryn Mawr Rehab Hospital. I came home from rehab on March 22nd.

Since then, I’ve been getting better, slowly but surely. Each day is a little better than the last, and the doctors are confident that I’ll recover completely.

With the closure of the legal proceedings and my health improving, I look forward to resuming EMHF’s work to protect those around us from fentanyl and fentanyl poisoning. Over the past year, EMHF has continued to move forward, and I’m very excited about what we have planned. I’ll be updating you very soon.
