Rabies is fatal...but the good news? It's 100% preventable! During the springtime, wild animals may become more active. Remember that you and your pets should keep a safe distance from wild animals. This includes never touching them, feeding them, or attempting to care for an animal that appears sick - leave this up to the professionals!

Possible exposure to rabies in people, pets, or domestic livestock should be reported to the Cayuga County Health Department by calling 315-253-1560.

Spring cleaning? It's important that while cleaning, you're keeping in mind lead-safe practices, especially if you live in a home built before 1980 as this means your home is more likely to contain lead paint.

Wet cleaning (using mops and wet wipes) is a great way to get a good clean without spreading harmful lead dust throughout the home.

If you have questions about lead, lead testing, or would like to receive a FREE in home lead risk assessment, call Cayuga County Health Department's Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program at 315-253-1560 or visit www.cayugacounty.gov/NHFL
