FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Upholding Justice, Free Speech, and Due Process in the Auburn Enlarged City School District
September 25, 2025
Auburn, NY — The Auburn Cayuga County NAACP stands firmly in defense of justice, truth, and the constitutional rights of all individuals, especially those who serve our children and communities with dedication. We are deeply troubled by recent public accusations that two Auburn Enlarged City School District educators “gloated” over the tragic death of Mr. Charlie Kirk and are “indoctrinating” students with hatred.
To be clear, individuals sharing personal reflections on societal double standards and historical injustices is not a celebration of violence. To distort these reflections into accusations of radicalization is not only irresponsible—it is dangerous.
The inflammatory rhetoric, including attacks on educators, is not rooted in concern for students or our community’s well-being. It is a deliberate attempt to spread fear and division. These baseless accusations are part of a broader, orchestrated effort to undermine First Amendment protections and silence voices that challenge systemic injustice.
This attempt to weaponize tragedy to advance a political agenda threatens the rights of educators and the integrity of our schools.
The continued disproportionate scrutiny of Black voices for exercising their First Amendment rights must not be repeated in Auburn.
We call on the Auburn ECSD and the broader community to:
1. Protect the First Amendment rights of educators to express personal views outside the classroom.
2. Reject inflammatory rhetoric that seeks to divide rather than unite.
3. Engage in honest dialogue about equity, justice, and the role of educators in shaping critical thinkers.
In a time of deep polarization, we must look beyond the smoke and mirrors of outrage and recommit ourselves to the principles of fairness, truth, and unity. The NAACP calls on all stakeholders—educators, families, leaders, and neighbors—to stand on the side of our Constitutional Rights as Americans, not judgment.
