Another thing that we are very excited for is our Bonney Park outreach event on September 22nd. We are going to be giving out cold weather packs for our unhoused neighbors, and starting now untill the 22nd we are collecting donations to fill the bags! Take a look at what is needed and bring your items on Sunday, we will have a box for collection in the lobby.

Thank you all so much for your faithfulness! If you would like to give toward this project without doing the shopping, you can go right to connectchurchla.com and click the blue plus button, and the give button. Make sure you put "Boney Park" in the memo!!

We are so excited to have so many amazing things happening this month. The Marriage Night is probably one of the things we are most excited about! Mark your calendar for this amazing night of connection, laughs, and be ready to get equipped with tools to strengthen your marriage.

This even is open to anyone, single OR married, so plan to be there!

THIS SUNDAY! We will be celebrating our kids and teens who are going back to school. All the kids will be in service, and we will be having a special time of commissioning and prayer for them, along with Aidan bringing the WORD! Make sure you are here to encourage and pray for our kids as they get ready to go show Jesus to their schools!

Unfortunately, we had some livestream issues on Sunday, so if you missed the message, here's a quick recap!:

One of the greatest blessings of having the Holy Spirit dwelling inside of us is that He still speaks to His people today.

When we talk about "hearing the Holy Spirit," we're not just talking about hearing an audible voice (although God certainly can speak that way). More often, we're talking about recognizing His leading, His prompting, His conviction, and His direction as we walk with Him.

The question isn't, "Does God still speak?" The question is, "Am I close enough to recognize His voice?"

Jesus said in John 10:27, "My sheep hear my voice. I know them, and they follow me."

So how do we become more sensitive to His voice?

1. Stay close to Jesus. Spend time in His Word. Pray. Worship. Abide in Him. The closer we are to the Shepherd, the easier it is to recognize His voice.

2. Test everything against Scripture. God will never contradict His own Word. If what we're hearing doesn't line up with Scripture, it isn't the Holy Spirit.

3. Don't lose heart if He seems quiet. God has not abandoned you. He promised He would never leave or forsake you. Sometimes our responsibility isn't to hear a new thing, it's simply to remain faithful to the last thing He asked us to do.

One of the biggest takeaways from Sunday was:

The goal isn't to predict how the Holy Spirit is going to speak. The goal is to recognize His voice when He does.

This isn't a transactional relationship where we earn God's direction by doing everything perfectly. It's a relationship with a loving Father who has given us His Spirit to guide us, help us, and empower us every day.

If you missed this week, we'd love to have you join us next Sunday as we continue our Holy Spirit Summer series and talk about what it means to not only hear the Holy Spirit, but to listen to and obey Him.

Love you all!

Pastor Zach
