Equipment Rodeo #14 was a record breaker! Almost 250 students from across north Alabama got their hands and boots dirty while learning about green industry careers. Some operated for the first time and others maneuvered machines like
seasoned veterans.

We shared many career options throughout the plant supply chain, but most importantly we shared with them the keys to success in almost any occupation: show up on time, every day, put down the phone, take pride in your work, treat people how you want to be treated, and never stop learning.

ALNLA Past-President Phillip Hunter has been hard at work on a very important issue for the green industry and the greater ag community, LABOR POLICY REFORM. If you haven’t read up on the Securing Agriculture’s Workforce Act (SAWA), make sure and see the newsletter sent to members just before and after the 4th of July.

We cannot stress enough how important it is for each of our members to contact your congressional representative and ask them to support this legislation. This will ultimately benefit all sectors of industry. Call your rep today!

House Agriculture Committee Chairman GT Thompson has introduced legislation aimed at making the H-2A farmworker program more usable for year-round agriculture.

The Securing Agriculture’s Workforce Act would change program eligibility from work that is temporary or seasonal to work that is temporary, with contracts lasting less than 350 days.

That could open clearer access for dairy, livestock, aquaculture, forestry, controlled environment agriculture, equine operations, and some meat and poultry processing. Supporters say current rules no longer fit farms that need labor beyond narrow harvest seasons.

Please put the Barton family and Plantation Tree Company staff on your prayer list today. We are all mourning the loss of Mr. Buzz Barton this morning. Mr. Buzz was one of the owners of PTC and also the owner of Barton's Landscape in Tuscaloosa, AL. He was a successful business man, and true family man!!! There will be a private family funeral, and then a celebration of life service will be announced later. We will keep everyone posted.
