Lake Auburn Community Center

Lake Auburn Community Center The Lake Auburn Community Center is now owned and operated by the City of Auburn. Enjoy!!

The Lake Auburn Community Center is located at 115 North Auburn Road at the historic West Auburn Farm site, now 6 acres with about 275 feet of road frontage. It serves as the gateway to Auburn’s community forest surrounding lake Auburn for the neighboring community and to local clubs and organizations. The Perkins Ridge Sno-Travelers currently store their trail groomer and signing inventory on sit

e. Also Cub Scout Packs from Auburn and Turner have used the property and others are encouraged to do so. We have a tree nursery on site (shared with the Cities of Auburn and Lewiston) and a two hundred year old barn restoration project that now houses a public shelter for meeting space and gathering opportunities for clubs and organizations. The property is owned by the Lake Auburn Watershed Neighborhood Association (LAWNA) a 501c3 charitable organization established in August of 2007.

It is with mixed emotions that we announce the Community Center property will go on the market for sale in the coming week.

Why? We've been struggling for years to raise the capital to finish the building work needed to preserve the barn on the property. If you’ve ever been to Oxbow, in Oxford, it is the same early 1800s barn as the one at the Community Center that has so much potential for use when restored.

We've come so close to finding another non-profit organization to give the barn and property to, knowing that the right investments would be made to complete our mission for the property. Our motto has been Recreation, Environment, Community and since 2009 a whole lot of good has been accomplished.

We have taken steps to ensure the trails, tree nursery, and Perkins Ridge Sno-Travelers grooming operations continue both near Lake Auburn and Lost Valley when the property sells. We expect another great neighbor will consider this property home in West Auburn.

Stay tuned, lots will be happening and we will continue to be open from 8:00 am to 8:30 pm daily until at least March, and possibly later.

Believe it or not, here’s the before and after of the Whitman Spring Rd trail.

The trails might not be ready for snowmobiles yet, but they have been getting plenty of attention from skiers, fat bikers, snowshoers, and walkers who are taking advantage of the nice weather. A huge thanks to the Ranger and our groomers who have been keeping the trails beautiful!

We haven’t gotten much snow yet this year, so it’s important to be mindful and to share the trails.

Remember that there will be many who will come after you. For example, skiers need smooth trials and tracks, so try stay clear of areas they’d enjoy.

If you find that you’re making ruts and sinking too much, try some snowshoes or walk on the side of the trail!

Please help us by sharing this message with your adventurous friends and family.

The Community Center is in need of quotes to perform a temporary patch to the roof of the barn (on short notice). Can anyone recommend a contractor with the capacity to perform this before the Christmas winds come in?
