We tend to be impatient with ourselves when we are grieving and often think we should move forward with life much sooner than our hearts are ready for.

Always be gentle with your tender self. Take however much time you need to figure out how to move into a life that is so different than what you were expecting. We are here to listen and support you however we can.

“I read so much about the grieving process over the past month. Devoured articles on the Internet, ordered books. All of them were clear that there was no timeline for grief. They were specific about symptoms of grief—the sensations of choking, shortness of breath, feelings of emptiness, endless crying. But nothing warned me that when I wasn’t experiencing those symptoms of anguish, all that was left was a sense of meaninglessness. A great, vast gray space of nothingness. Limbo.”

Westminster offers a prayer service for healing and wholeness every other month on the second Wednesday at 5:30pm in the church chapel. Organized and led by deacons, these services give the community a place to pray for themselves, others, our community, and the world. On Wednesday January 14, the Healing and Wholeness service will be a candlelight service for those grieving unborn infant loss. Please invite friends and others who might need this support and care.

We want love without heartbreak — but here on Earth, they come as a package deal.
“Love and grief come as a package deal. If you love, you will one day know sorrow.”
It’s a truth most of us wish we could escape.
We don’t want to imagine losing the people who mean the most to us.
We don’t want the sorrow, the ache, the empty space they leave behind.
But if we move through life loving others — really loving them — grief will eventually find us.
Not because we did anything wrong.
Not because we were meant to be tested.
But because grief is the echo of love.
And the depth of that grief will always reflect the depth of the love.
As painful as that is, I don’t want to move through this world avoiding love just to avoid grief.
I don’t want to miss the relationships, the joy, the connection — even knowing sorrow will one day come.
Love is worth it.
Even when grief follows.
How does this idea land with you — comforting, painful, or a mix of both?
