Alabama Water Watch

Alabama Water Watch An organization dedicated to community-based watershed stewardship through citizen volunteer monitoring of Alabama's lakes, streams, and coastlines.
(1)

Established in 1992, AWW is a national model for citizen involvement in watershed stewardship, largely because of its three interrelated components: citizen monitoring groups, a university-based program, and a non-profit association. AWW uses EPA-approved monitoring plans with a community-based approach to train citizens to monitor conditions and trends of their local waterbodies. With a "data-to-

action" focus, AWW helps volunteers collect, analyze, and understand their data to make positive impacts.

Drought Update!

While the majority of the state remains in some level of drought, some West and Southwestern counties in the state received enough rain to improve from Extreme (D3) drought to Severe (D2) Drought. These areas will still need more beneficial rainfall before long term improvements can set in.

Next week's forecast shows scattered showers and little to no rain - expect conditions to remain the same.

Parrot Feather (Myriophyllum aquaticum) is an aggressive invasive aquatic plant that can quickly choke out Alabama’s ponds and waterways. 🌿 While its feathery green foliage may look attractive, it forms dense mats that block sunlight, deplete oxygen levels, and interfere with fishing and boating. 🛶 Stay alert for this invader to protect our local water quality and native aquatic life! 💧
