Sometimes the most powerful reminder of why we do this work comes directly from the people we’ve had the privilege of walking alongside. 🤍

A previous Insights client shared:

“Insights has forever changed and quite possibly saved my life… six months ago I was a hurt, lost, angry and hopeless person. Through the tragic death of my significant other, I felt life no longer had meaning and I had lost my direction. Upon coming to Insights, I have been given a second chance at life. I can now see a light at the end of the tunnel, and what a beautiful light it is.”

This is why we believe so deeply in making mental health care accessible. Sometimes reaching out for help is the beginning of finding hope again and you do not have to wait until you’ve reached your breaking point to ask for support.

Insights Counseling Group currently has immediate availability with no waitlist.

We accept many major insurance plans and also offer programs that can make therapy accessible at little or no cost to eligible members of our community, including free mental health services for qualifying families with children under age five and services for Veterans and their immediate family members.

Whether you’re navigating grief, trauma, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, motherhood, a major life transition, or simply know that you don’t feel like yourself anymore, we would be honored to help you find the right support.

Sometimes there really is a light at the end of the tunnel, even when you can’t see it yet. 🤍

September is Su***de Prevention Month. 💛

Sometimes the person who is struggling the most doesn’t look like they’re struggling at all.

They may still go to work. Show up for their family. Laugh with friends. Answer “I’m good” when someone asks how they’re doing.

That’s why checking in matters.

Ask the second question. Stay a little longer. Listen without immediately trying to fix it. Remind the people you love that they don’t have to carry the hardest parts of life alone.

And if you’re the one struggling right now, please know that you don’t have to figure out the rest of your life today. Let someone into what you’re carrying. Reach out to someone you trust, a mental health professional, or a crisis resource.

There are still conversations you haven’t had, people you haven’t met, ordinary mornings you haven’t woken up to, and moments you don’t know you’ll be grateful you stayed for.

We hope you stay. 💛

If you or someone you know is experiencing a mental health crisis or considering su***de, call or text 988 to connect with the Su***de & Crisis Lifeline. If there is immediate danger, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department.

Two things can be true at the same time. 🤍

You can love your baby more than you knew it was possible to love another human being…

and miss who you were before they arrived.

You can be incredibly grateful to be a mother…

and feel completely overwhelmed by motherhood.

You can know that your baby is safe and healthy…

and still feel anxious every moment of the day.

You can look completely put together in pictures…

and be barely making it through the hours between them.

You can desperately want to be a mom…

and experience postpartum depression.

You can be an attentive, loving mother…

and have intrusive thoughts that horrify you.

You can adore your family…

and wonder why you feel numb, angry, disconnected, terrified, or unlike yourself.

Struggling after having a baby does not cancel out your love for your baby.

I think that’s something we need to say more often.

Because motherhood comes with so many expectations about how we’re supposed to feel.

We’re supposed to soak it all in.

We’re supposed to be grateful.

We’re supposed to have some instinct that suddenly tells us what to do.

We’re supposed to be tired, but not too tired. Emotional, but not too emotional. Worried, but only the normal amount.

And when a mother’s experience falls outside of that picture, shame can become incredibly loud.

So she stays quiet.

Postpartum depression can whisper, Everyone would be better off without me.

Anxiety can convince her that danger is everywhere.

Postpartum OCD can bring unwanted intrusive thoughts that are completely opposite of what she wants and then convince her that having the thought must mean something terrible about who she is.

Trauma can leave her replaying a birth everyone else has already moved on from.

And in the rare but very serious case of postpartum psychosis, a mother can experience hallucinations, delusions, severe confusion, or a loss of connection with reality that requires emergency psychiatric care.

These experiences are different. They require different kinds of care.

But there is something they often have in common:

A mother who may be suffering far more than the people around her realize.

That’s why I want us to get better at asking something deeper than:

“How’s the baby?”

Ask her:

How are YOU?

And then give her enough space to answer honestly.

Not every difficult day means someone has a perinatal mood or anxiety disorder. Motherhood is exhausting and overwhelming sometimes.

But we shouldn’t normalize suffering to the point that mothers believe they’re simply supposed to endure it.

There is no prize for struggling silently.

There is no requirement that you reach your breaking point before your pain is worthy of support.

And needing help does not erase the beautiful parts of motherhood.

Joy and depression can exist in the same story.
Gratitude and grief can exist together.
Deep love and deep struggle can occupy the same heart.

At MomSquad, we want mothers to know there is room for the whole truth of their experience, not just the parts that look beautiful in pictures.

So yes, ask about the baby.

But please, ask about Mom too. 🤍

Supporting the people who spend their lives supporting others. 💚

This Monday, we have the privilege of hosting the incredible team from Keaton’s Child Cancer Alliance for a restorative retreat focused on nervous system regulation, stress reduction, reflection, and sustainable self-care.

Whether you serve children, families, veterans, first responders, healthcare professionals, educators, nonprofit teams, or other helping professionals, caring for others every day takes a toll. We believe those who give so much deserve intentional spaces to rest, reconnect, and be cared for, too.

At Insights Family Counseling Services, we offer custom wellness retreats designed to help teams:
🌿 Regulate the nervous system
🌿 Prevent burnout and compassion fatigue
🌿 Build resilience and emotional well-being
🌿 Reconnect with purpose and one another

Thank you, Keaton’s Child Cancer Alliance, for allowing us to walk alongside your team. It is an honor to create a sacred space for those who bring hope and healing to so many families.

✨ Interested in bringing a retreat like this to your organization? We’d love to partner with you. Send us a message or call us at 530-429-7370 to learn more about our custom retreats for helping professionals and nonprofit teams.

What an incredible day! ⛳💙

Our 6th Annual Swing "Fore" A Cause Golf Tournament was a tremendous success, and we are filled with gratitude for everyone who helped make it possible.

To our sponsors, golfers, donors, volunteers, and community supporters—thank you for showing up, giving generously, and helping us raise support for veterans' mental health services. Because of your participation, more individuals and families will have access to the care, hope, and healing they deserve.

We had an amazing time connecting with our community, enjoying a beautiful day on the course, and celebrating a cause that is so close to our hearts.

Facebook wouldn't let us upload all of the photos from the event (and there were so many great ones!), but we wanted to share a glimpse of the fun and gratitude we experienced throughout the day. If you attended, feel free to share your favorite photos and memories in the comments!

Thank you for helping us create sacred spaces for healing, connection, and growth. We couldn't do this work without you.

Until next year! 💙🏌️‍♂️🇺🇸
