Moravia Hope Pantry Garden Clean Up - Saturday, October 10th

Thanks to the youth and families working with 4-H in the Moravia Hope Pantry Garden this past year. On October 10th, volunteers worked to harvest the remaining produce and clean up the space in anticipation for 2027.

Thanks to all our youth and volunteers-- The program was a success with gardening, insect exploration, art in the garden and trying new garden produce treats-- from pesto pasta to butternut squash soup. Clean-up day ended with the doughnut (or cantaloupe!) on a string challenge. We are already looking forward to next year!

Please join Cornell Cooperative Extension Cayuga County for the 2026 Annual Meeting, to be held Thursday, October 22nd from 6:00-7:30pm at the Sennett Fire Hall in Auburn.

By popular request, this year’s event will be more family-friendly, and will include a 4-H activities to occupy kids 5-12 while the business meeting takes place. Older youth are invited to attend either the business meeting or activity. Parents will also be able to enroll their youth in 4-H at the meeting.

Everyone is invited to enjoy walking tacos, Cornell Dairy Ice Cream, c***r, donuts, and milk shakes while reviewing displays from our program areas.

Our staff will share information and answer questions about the many successful programs and services they have provided over the past year to the residents of Cayuga County in the areas of agriculture, environment & natural resources, home horticulture, 4-H clubs and activities, and through sales and events at our Taste NY Market, which is staffed and managed by CCE-Cayuga in the NYS Equal Rights Heritage Center in Auburn.

There will be opportunities to share your thoughts on our major program directions. CCE-Cayuga's connections in the community are among its greatest assets and we invite you to come and meet with fellow community members, collaborators, and others who share interests in Extension’s work. A brief meeting to elect 2027 Board of Directors members be held.

🐷 Applications are OPEN for the Next Gen Pork Ambassadors! 🐷

We’re excited to launch Next Gen Pork Ambassadors, a leadership program designed to give the next generation of pork industry leaders a seat at the table.

Ambassadors will serve as a junior board of New York Pork Producers, working alongside NYPP leadership to help shape programs, communications, and opportunities for young people in the pork industry.

As a Next Gen Pork Ambassador, you will:
🐷 Represent NYPP at the Producer Summit & Annual Meeting
📰 Help create and produce The Young Producer magazine
🎓 Help guide programming for the New York Junior Pork Producers
🤝 Participate in NYPP events and activities
🌱 Attend a 3-day Ambassador Weekend Retreat
📋 Have opportunities to participate in NYPP committees
💡 Bring your ideas and perspective to the table

Who is it for?
The program is open to NY based high school juniors, high school seniors, and college freshmen who are interested in pork, agriculture, leadership, and getting more involved in the industry.

This is an active leadership opportunity, but we know school, work, and other commitments come first. Ambassadors should be prepared for:

• Monthly virtual meetings
• NYPP events and activities throughout the year, including the Producer Summit
• One 3-day Ambassador Weekend Retreat, scheduled between January and March
• Ongoing work on The Young Producer and other projects
• Participation in Junior Pork programming and select NYPP committee activities

Most activities will be scheduled in advance to help participants balance the program with school, work, and other responsibilities.

The Moravia 4-H Spark Club starts up again on Thursday, October 1st from 4:00 - 5:15pm at the Masonic Lodge at 64 Main Street in Moravia. The Club will meet on the 1st Thursday of each month: Oct. 1, Nov. 5, Dec. 3, Jan. 7, Feb. 4, Mar. 1, Apr. 1, and May 6.

Youth aged 5-18 are invited to these new, staff-led 4-H meetings. Every month a new subject and activity will be covered! Projects started in these meetings can be entered in the 2027 4-H youth fair. Attendance is free and all materials are provided. Youth may attend one, some, or all meetings and may start attending at any time during the year.

CCE-Cayuga Welcomes New Natural Resources and Agriculture Educators

(Auburn, NY) Cornell Cooperative Extension Cayuga County announces the recent hiring of educators to fill vacancies in their Agriculture and Environment & Natural Resources programs.

Tristin Rose-Morley is the new Agriculture Educator for CCE Cayuga. Tristin is a lifelong resident of the Finger Lakes. She grew up in Watkins Glen and developed an interest in agriculture and working with livestock through her experiences working on local farms and with veterinarians. She earned the Bachelor of Science in Biology from SUNY Geneseo and recently completed the Master of Professional Studies in Animal Science with a concentration in Dairy Management at Cornell University.

Tristin’s experience includes dairy research, livestock production, agricultural outreach, and education. During her time at Cornell, she worked on several dairy research projects focused on calf health, cattle nutrition, and management and completed her graduate capstone on housing decisions for preweaned dairy calves. She previously served as an Agriculture Educator with CCE Chemung County, supporting agriculture programming, producer outreach, newsletters, social media, and community events. In her role with CCE Cayuga, Tristin is excited to work with local producers and community members and to help connect people with practical, research-based agricultural information and resources. Outside of Extension, she enjoys spending time on her family farm, caring for her cattle and poultry, creating macrame, and spending time outdoors. Brad Ellis has joined the CCE Cayuga staff as the new Environmental/Natural Resources Educator. Born and raised in Seneca Falls, Brad is a lifelong resident of the Finger Lakes region. He holds a Bachelor of Science from Cornell University with a major in Natural Resources and a Master of Education from Roberts Wesleyan College. His professional interests with Cornell Cooperative Extension include education and outreach on composting and recycling, invasive species, natural history, and local watershed protection. In his spare time, Brad enjoys growing fruits and vegetables, making wood-fired pizzas, reading about environmental topics, hiking local trails, and spending time with his family.

As in past years, the Environment & Natural Resources Educator will divide outreach and education activities between the three nonprofit agencies that support this position: CCE Cayuga, CCE Seneca, and Seneca County Soil & Water Conservation District.
