Parlor Pals, one of Cayuga County's community 4-H clubs, hosted a spaghetti dinner as a club project. Twenty-two youth prepared spaghetti, meatballs, a chopped salad, garlic bread, and cookies for 46! Thank you to the very intrepid parents of Parlor Pals who are living the 4-H motto of learning by doing! πŸ€

This week 8 4-Hers braved the unusually chilly weather to learn the finer points of showing a dairy project at a 4-H show. They practiced making eye contact with the judge, positioning their animal to show it off at its best, and learned how to shape a proper topline. Youth learned how to practice a steady hand and honest eye with wooden clippers and a long pile of flour. Three heifers attended this 4-H beauty salon and certainly enjoyed a little time under the hair dryer! Thank you to Shaun Merrill for volunteering his time and expertise and to Aurora Oakwood Dairy for hosting.

This past Saturday our youngest 4-Hers got a lesson in Dairy Showmanship. The learned how to hold a calf's head in a halter, set their feet up under them, follow the judge with their eyes, and trim the calf's hair so it looks perfect.
