The Stockades. A village with a brutal past. on February 8th 1690 a colony was attacked and dozens of people were killed by the French and Indigenous fighters. They burned 70 homes and 60 people died. The Area got its name Stockade from what it was protected by. A large stockade gate the surrounded the city of Traders and villagers. A Dutch colony which purchased the land from the Mohawk Indians. Had built this community. One night and a village fast asleep. Tragedy struck. It is said that there are still spirits of these villagers that roam halls, walk down the paths and remind us that they are still here. The very first Historical district in New York. Most of these homes bear the 1790 placard of historic homes.
