On February 2, 100+Women Who Care Androscoggin held their ninth fundraising meeting at Central Maine Community College in Auburn. At that meeting, the membership voted to support Community Cares Backpack Program with their donations. The checks, totaling $8050, were delivered to the Backpack Program on March 9. Because of this donation, the program is also eligible for up to a $1,000 matching grant from the Richard M Schulze Foundation.

The mission of the Community Cares Backpack Program is to provide children who are suffering the effects of chronic hunger with nutritious, easy-to-prepare food to eat when school meals are not available for students prek to fourth grade in RSU4 (Sabattus, Litchfield and Wales). The program is designed to ensure all students maintain a balanced diet and return to school every Monday morning ready to focus on learning.

Started by a concerned mom, the Backpack Program is run entirely by volunteers and provides food to 75 students each week during the school year. Local businesses have contributed to the effort to increase the amount and types of food that can be provided.

100+ Women Who Care Androscoggin is a collaboration of local women who invest in the community by pooling their donations for the greatest impact. They meet four times a year. Members can nominate organizations or projects that are working to address community needs. At each meeting they hear from 3 of the nominated organizations and then vote for one group to receive their donation. The members then write a check to that organization. To date, 100+ Women Who Care Androscoggin has raised and donated $60,510. With the matching grant, the community impact is $79,915.

Hello all you Amazing Women! The next meeting of 100+ Women Who Care Androscoggin will be held on Feb. 2, 6pm in Kirk Hall Auditorium at Central Maine Community College. At that meeting we will celebrate 2 years of making an impact in our communities!!! Yay Us!

I have also arranged to hold Feb. 9 as a snow date for our meeting. We have been having such frequent inclement weather that I thought it best to have a snow date for this meeting. If I decided to cancel the Feb. 2 meeting, I would notify you all by email no later than 3 pm on Feb. 2, so be sure to check your email if you have any doubt.

The organizations which will be considered for funding that night are
Community Cares Backpack program, Her Safety Net, and Healthy Neighborhoods. I am excited to learn more about these groups!

One sad piece of news--we have been notified by the Richard M Schulze Foundation that they will no longer be offering matching grants for the 100 Women Who Care initiative. We can apply for one last grant of up to $1,000 for our 1st quarter group, but after that the program is done. This is very sad because it really helped to magnify our contributions. So we will just have to work harder at gaining more members to increase our donation amount.

If you are going to miss this meeting, please be ready to mail your check as soon as you hear from me which group was chosen. I generally send that email the same night as our meeting. I would really appreciate you getting those checks in the mail right away, or join Grapevine to make your donation online. It sometimes takes 3 weeks or more to get all the checks in, and we don't present them to the group until we believe we have all the checks. (That is why it takes so long for your checks to cash through....) So here is a reminder to be ready to write your check as soon as you hear from me. Thank you!

See you on Feb. 2!!!!

On Nov. 3, 100+Women Who Care Androscoggin held their eighth fundraising meeting at Central Maine Community College in Auburn. At that meeting, the membership voted to support the High Street Food Pantry with their donations. The checks, totaling $7650, were delivered to the food pantry on Dec. 4. Because of this donation, the program may qualify for a 50% matching grant from the Richard M Schulze Foundation, making the total donation potentially $11,475.
The High Street Food Pantry strives to serve the local community with weekly offerings of nourishing fresh produce, canned goods, bakery products, frozen meat and poultry, and personal hygiene products. In addition, they offer slightly used children’s books, knitted hats and mittens, flu vaccines, and holiday specials such as toys for children at Christmas. The Pantry is open every Thursday starting at 8:30, and provides food each week to 70 families.
The pantry is run by the High Street Congregational Church, and the United Methodist Church of Auburn. It has been in existence for over 20 years, and has 40-plus volunteers ranging in ages from 10 to 95. Each week, 5 truck drivers provide food deliveries from the Good Shepherd Food Distribution Center and then 25-plus volunteers pack and distribute the food.

Hello Amazing Women! Our next meeting is on Nov 3, 6pm in Kirk Hall Auditorium at Central Maine Community College. That is one week from tonight, and I hope you will all be there.

We have decided to try something new this time. We are announcing the 3 organizations that will be presented at this meeting. We are also giving you their web sites so you can read up on them if you would like, and maybe it will help formulate questions you would like to ask.

So...here they are:
High Street Food Pantry https://www.highstreet-ucc.org/food-pantry/
Moving ME Forward www.movingmeforward.org
Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Services www.SAPARS.org

This is a great opportunity to learn more about these valuable resources, and vote to make a difference for one of them.

Let me know if you have any questions. I look forward to seeing you on the 3rd!

We encourage you to join us and invite family and friends to participate as well. Our strength is in our numbers-the more women members, the greater the donation and the greater the impact. Your commitment would be to attend 4 meetings a year and donate $50 at each meeting. This is YOUR opportunity to help nonprofit organizations and community groups to receive a significant donation to support their work. It is also YOUR opportunity to nominate a nonprofit or community group to be considered for funding. And it is YOUR opportunity to learn more about the needs of our community and what is being done to address these needs. This is also an opportunity to potentially provide some funding for smaller, less known organizations or groups who might not “qualify” for funding under other, more traditional funding mechanisms.

Good evening. Word is that it was another great meeting Monday night. The members heard from 3 very worthy organizations--The Pink Feather Foundation, Starlight Girls Soccer and Empowerment, and Trinity Jubilee Center. Ultimately, Trinity Jubilee Center was chosen to receive our funding.

The Jubilee Center believes in comprehensive support and is dedicated to helping people survive difficult situations and build a strong future. At the Center people can receive the food and shelter they need to meet their immediate, desperate needs. They can also receive help writing their resume and applying for jobs, see a doctor, and attend a community education workshop as they work to improve their situation. Trinity operates a soup kitchen, food pantry, day shelter and resource center, in addition to offering services related to immigrant integration. Each person comes to the Jubilee Center with different barriers and goals and utilizes different programs in order to stabilize and improve their life. They work closely with clients and partner agencies to design, assess, and improve their programs to best address current issues and provide the greatest benefit to their clients. Programs are low-barrier and open to anyone in need.
You can learn more at www.trinityjubileecenter.org.

If you were not able to attend Monday nights meeting, your membership in 100+ Women Who Care Androscoggin now requires you to submit your $50.00 donation for Trinity Jubilee Center. You can make an online donation through Grapevine https://www.grapevine.org/giving-circle/DBGCz42/100-Women-Who-Care-Androscoggin
Or, you can make your $50 check payable to Trinity Jubilee Center and send the check to Diane Phipps. Her address can be found in our emails.

Please make your donation this week. I need to know what our final total is before I can apply for the matching grant, so I would appreciate it if you could take care of this right away.

As always THANK YOU for your support and for your participation in helping to make a greater impact in our community!
