Good News Toastmaster Group

Good News Toastmaster Group If your palms get sweaty and your heart starts to pound at the thought of even standing up to introduce yourself to a group of strangers, don't worry!

Since 1994, the Good News Group has been helping World Vision employees and people from the area become more confident and competent in public speaking and leadership. Everyone in the Good News Group was once at the level you are now. Our group, which meets in World Vision's Federal Way office, is friendly and supportive, and the self-paced program allows you to build confidence with each speaking

assignment. And you’ll love the applause! Constructive evaluation is the heart of the Toastmasters program. Each time you give a prepared speech, an evaluator will point out strengths and suggest improvements. At first you’ll be applauded for your effort; later you’ll be applauded for your skill.

With regret, leaders were unable to keep the club open during the shutdown. For those of you in the Federal Way area who would like to resume this great program, Auburn Morning Toastmasters meets at 7 a.m. Thursdays at the Auburn Chamber of Commerce, 268 E. Main Street, Auburn. Visit us at https://auburnmorning.toastmastersclubs.org/

Congratulations to Sam Irungu, new President of the Good News Group. Here's a sample of what the program has done for him, in his television appearance promoting clean water.

In many countries, people walk miles to find water and lug it home, and in many cases it is dirty and disease-ridden. International charity World Vision, based in Federal Way, develops ways to bring fresh water to struggling regions, and shares how we can help.

Dear former Good News member and visitor:

Greetings. I hope this finds you well and thriving in your career and ministry. Whether you visited the Good News Group, or joined for a short amount of time or longer, we hope you found your time with us valuable.

Toastmasters International has revamped its educational program, transitioning to the web-based Pathways program. As a long-time Toastmaster, the program already has reinvigorated my interest in growing through the program. Rather than having just two tracks – for education and leadership – the new program offers 10 paths focused on your educational interests and needs, with more to be added in the future. They are:
• Motivational Strategies
• Presentation Mastery
• Leadership Development
• Innovative Planning
• Visionary Communication
• Strategic Relationships
• Dynamic Leadership
• Persuasive Influence
• Effective Coaching
• Team Collaboration

Depending on which path you take, you’ll be given some specific projects, as well as a range of optional ones, toward your goal. Many of the projects will seem familiar, although the new web-based educational programs are incredible. I recently gave my Pathways Ice Breaker; with the outline provided, it was the easiest speech I’ve ever written. See for yourself here: https://www.toastmasters.org/websiteApps/Pathways/IceBreaker/tm100101/index.html

The program also has moved beyond the manual speech projects, offering new skills such as podcasting, ethical leadership, blogging and conducting online meetings. More information is available at: https://www.toastmasters.org/pathways-overview

As a 13-year Toastmaster, I’m excited about being able to focus my Toastmaster experience on my future goals. In a few years when I’m retired, I hope to be able to coach other women who are struggling in, or preparing for, retirement. I’m starting on the Effective Coaching Path.

If you think you’d like you check out this new program – or would recommend it to others - we welcome you back to visit the Good News Club any time. We meet at 12:05 Tuesdays on the World Vision campus, usually in the Romania conference room, first floor of building one. (Check with receptionist to be sure.) If you have moved out of the area and/or our meetings are no longer convenient, I encourage you to check out another Toastmasters Club. This program is that good.

I do hope to see you soon, and to hear how Toastmasters is/has made a difference for you.
