The year was 1990, on a birthday weekend that summer. The experience of a special Space Camp session for adults led to a program that would impact 4-H for many years to come. In early 1991, a meeting with the Director of the U.S. Space & Rocket Center, Ed Buckbee, quickly led to what was called the 4-H Missions in Space program. As a young Extension Specialist supporting Science & Technology in 4-H, Dr. Cook shared a vision with Mr. Buckbee and, being the visionary Mr. Buckbee was, he quickly pushed forward the idea of 4-H youth from around the country would come to Space Camp. In honor of Ed Buckbee, I share this bit of 4-H history National 4-H History Preservation Program.
