Class #12 had an incredible day exploring Nemaha County and learning more about our local education programs!
The day began with Jodi-Renee Giron from First Five Nebraska, who shared insights on policy change, important statistics, and early childhood brain development—including the powerful reminder that most brain development happens within the first 1,000 days of life. The group then learned about Sixpence and childcare partnerships from Diane Hughes, highlighting what quality care looks like and how these programs strengthen families.
At Auburn Public Schools - District #29, Superintendent David Patten shared district data, budgeting, enrollment, and challenges, sparking thoughtful conversations about the future.
The group continued to Johnson-Brock Public School, where Principal Lucas Dahlinghaus provided a tour and shared how schools serve as vital community spaces.
At Peru State College, the class enjoyed lunch and heard from Michael Carr and two corrections program students about scholarships and balancing college life, followed by Susan Hogg, who discussed enrollment, affordability, and collaboration across the county.
The day wrapped up at Mount Vernon Cemetery overlooking Peru, where Marty Peregoy shared the rich history of the area.
Thank you Tyson Wessels for organizing a full day of learning, connection, and meaningful conversation!
