🎳✨ Ready to make a difference? Join MA HOBY as we volunteer with Special Olympics of Massachusetts at their bowling tournament!

MA HOBY is teaming up with Special Olympics Massachusetts for their bowling tournament — and we need YOU to help make it an unforgettable day for these incredible athletes! 💙

Some moments are just meant to be shared, and this is one of them. As a volunteer, you'll be right in the middle of the action — keeping score, cheering on athletes, and making memories that last. Training provided, friends & family welcome!

Time moves fast—and so does opportunity. Applications are officially open for 2026 MAHOBY Seminar Junior Staff.

If you are a Massachusetts HOBY alumnus, this is your chance to come back, lead, and help shape the next class of ambassadors. Junior Staff play a critical role in the seminar experience by mentoring, energizing, and guiding students alongside experienced facilitators.

🎄 Christmas in the City Volunteer Event 🎁✨

We're excited to share that our next volunteer event will be with Christmas in the City — and this year, we’re participating in a Delivered Event hosting a holiday party at the Empath Hosmer CoShelter on Saturday, December 20th, 2025!

Here’s how you can be part of the magic:

🎁 Gift Giving (Required for Volunteers)
Each volunteer is responsible for purchasing one gift for a child based on their Wishlist, valued at $40–$50.
The average age of the children in our assigned shelter is 1 year old.

📦 Gift Drop-Off Options
– Bring your wrapped gift to the holiday party if you’re volunteering in person
– OR drop off / ship your gift to Andres's home by December 17th for collection (DM or email for details!)

🥫 Optional Donation: Canned Goods
We’re also collecting unexpired canned foods/soups to donate to a local elementary school. Feel free to include a donation with your gift!

On Sunday, October 5th, we’ll be cheering on participants as they cross the finish line at Boston Common. Our volunteer team will be there from 10am–7pm, welcoming participants and handing out medals to celebrate their incredible journey. 🏅💛

🏅Volunteer Sign-Ups for 2025 Special Olympics Summer Games 🏅

On Saturday, August 16th we will be volunteering with Special Olympics of Massachusetts at their 2025 Central and Eastern MA Bocce and Cycling Tournaments.

The details are as follows:

Date: Saturday, August 16th 2025
Time: 8:30am - 3:00pm
Where: 219 Forest Street, Marlborough, MA 01752

A t-shirt and pizza lunch will be provided to all volunteers.

Come prepared to help out at the events with keeping score for Bocce and serving as time keepers and route guides for cycling. After the games, we will help with the medals ceremony for all the athletes. No prior experience is necessary to volunteer at this event.

When you sign up with the link below or in bio, please indicate your preference for event and fill out only ONE of the Special Olympics sign-up links as this is required by SOMA. And please note, the day of the event we may shift you from one event to the other if volunteers are needed for extra support.

On Saturday, July 19th we will be volunteering at Mass Audubon's Moose Hill Wildlife Sanctuary, and then hosting our alumni reunion at their picnic tables.

The details are as follows:

Time: 9am - 12pm Service portion / 12pm - 2pm alumni reunion
Where: Nature Center at Moose Hill, 293 Moose Hill Pkwy, Sharon, MA 02067

Moose Hill Wildlife Sanctuary is Mass Audubon’s oldest and largest wildlife sanctuary, encompassing forests, fields, and wetlands with diverse hiking trails and a red maple swamp boardwalk.

Come prepared to help out at the sanctuary with a number of tasks to either help preserve the sanctuary and trails for visitors. There is a place to change in case you want to bring a change of clothes for after volunteering.

After helping at the Sanctuary, we will host our alumni reunion at the Nature Center, where lunch in the form of sandwiches and snacks will be provided, along with drinks.

Ifrad Islam-Service Leadership Speaker

Ifrad Islam is a thought leader in the field of healthcare data analytics with 13+ years of experience working with physicians and health plans to improve clinical care for patients. Based in Worcester, Massachusetts, much of Ifrad’s professional life has been spent analyzing how people use medical services, the efficiency of clinical care provided by doctors and hospitals in the U.S., psychosocial factors influencing patient behavior, and waste in the healthcare ecosystem that results in overspending and unmet patient needs.

He is currently a Vice President of Analytics at Prominence Health, leading a team of analysts in supporting big data analytics, economic assessments, medical cost studies and clinical quality projects. Ifrad’s research on topics like pharmaceutical cost and high-deductible health plans has resulted in article publications in a number of media outlets like NEJM Catalyst and AMGA Group Practice Journal. He has a B.A. in Economics from Clark University and an M.S. in Health Informatics from Northeastern University. Outside of work, Ifrad works at Clark University as a part-time lecturer, and with Easterseals Massachusetts as a youth program aide. His other interests include running, NPR, dogs and premier league football.

Kalianni Neal-Desatnik: College Admissions Speaker

Kalianni Neal-Desatnik is a Senior Assistant Director of Admission at Bentley University, where she serves on the Admission Committee and supports university initiatives focused on first-generation college students and prospective student-athletes. She began her career in higher education as a tour guide during her undergraduate years and quickly discovered a passion for helping students recognize their untapped potential through higher education.

Kalianni has served as a member of the admission committees at both Brandeis University and Bentley University, bringing a student-centered and transparent approach to each review cycle. She recently earned her MBA from Bentley University and holds a Bachelor of Arts in American Studies and Health: Science, Society, and Policy from Brandeis University.

Our next volunteer events will be with Special Olympics of Massachusetts on Sunday, March 23rd!

We will be helping by keeping score, monitoring an assigned lane and presenting awards.
