The goal of the War Eagle Flying Team is to encourage growth, expand aviation knowledge, open up connections between members and industry leaders, and understand precision flying for those who have a passion for all areas of aviation. The War Eagle Flying Team is Auburn University’s competitive flight team who competes in multiple flight, ground, and simulator events against other collegiate flight schools. Our interest meeting will be hosted in the Library in Mell 4133 at 6:00PM on January 18, 2023! We can not wait to meet everyone! WAR EAGLE!

Region IX SAFECON competition is officially finished and we’re off to Nationals in the Spring! The War Eagle Flying Team came home with Second Place overall! We had a great week down in Lakeland, FL competing against the other schools in our region!

Top Results of our Team:
2nd Place Overall
2nd Place Ground Events
3rd Place Flight Events
1st & 3rd in Unlimited Navigation
3rd Place Message Drop
3rd Place Aircraft Recognition
1st & 3rd Place Ground Trainer

Along with these outstanding scores, we had several members place Top 10 in other flight and ground events. We cannot wait for the National Competition this May up in Oshkosh, WI!

What a great last couple of weeks we’ve had on WEFT!

Last weekend we hosted the Auburn Aviation Alumni Tailgate with . This event was a huge success getting to connect students with alumni and bring the Auburn Aviation family back together for homecoming.

Last week we finished our intramural soccer league with an overtime win coming down to the penalty kicks!

This weekend we completed the last of our tryouts for regionals and look forward to the coming practices as we ramp up for competition!

NATIONALS 2022 is a wrap with a 9th place finish in the nation!

For the first time in program history, the War Eagle Flying Team won the following awards:

•Loening Trophy… “The Loening Trophy is a perpetual trophy presented annually to the outstanding all- around collegiate aviation program in the nation. The Loening Trophy is the rarest and oldest of all collegiate aviation awards.”

•American Airlines Safety Award
•Competition Safety Award
•Collegiate Aviation Progress Award
•Judges Trophy: 10th place
•Ground Events Championship: 10th place
•Flight Events Championship: 9th place

Individual Awards:
•Men’s Achievement Award: 2nd place, Eric Tivy
•Women’s Achievement Award: 3rd place, Maggie Hearn
•Instrument Simulated Flight: 5th place, Riley Hoag
•Message Drop: 7th place, Riley Hoag and Riley Colliau
•Unlimited Navigation: 7th place tie, Eric Tivy and Luke Russo
•Unlimited Navigation: 7th place tie, Thomas Bingham and Christopher Hopkins
•Unlimited Navigation: 9th place, Ashley Baldwin and Maggie Hearn
•Ground Trainer: 8th place, Riley Hoag
•Simulated Comprehensive Aircraft Navigation: 17th place, Eric Tivy
•Outstanding Team Member: Riley Colliau
•Along with several top 50 finishes

We had a great time at Nationals and are incredibly grateful for the opportunity to compete.
