GFCO welcomes the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s Request for Information on gluten labeling and cross-contact, which reflects a growing recognition of long-standing gaps in how gluten-related risk is communicated to consumers. For individuals with celiac disease, clarity around ingredients and manufacturing controls is essential to health and safety.
GFCO has long addressed these risks through a rigorous, science-based certification program that evaluates ingredients, processes, and cross-contact controls, particularly related to rye, barley, and oats.
Efforts to strengthen transparency and close data gaps are an important step toward better consumer protection, and we support evidence-driven approaches that help inform future gluten-related policy.
Today, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued a Request for Information (RFI) regarding labeling and preventing cross-contact of gluten in packaged food.
