As Maine students head back to school, we’re reminded that access to nutritious food is an important part of helping every child learn, grow, and thrive.

For many Maine kids, school meals provide an essential source of nourishment. When school is out, whether for weekends, after-school hours, vacation weeks, or summer break, some children and families can face greater challenges accessing enough healthy food.

That’s why connecting families with local food resources matters all year long. Across Maine, nearly 550 hunger-relief organizations are working to make sure help is available in communities throughout the state.

If you or someone you know needs food assistance, or if you’d like to donate food or volunteer at a local pantry, visit our Food Map.

Let’s make sure every Maine student has the nourishment they need to start the school year strong.

Thank you to Bank of America for their commitment to supporting the basic needs of Mainers and stepping up as a Leadership Partner of Good Shepherd Food Bank’s Corporate Partners for a Hunger-Free Maine.

Last year, our partners at Bank of America saw the challenges faced by the Food Bank, local food pantries, and neighbors alike, and generously invited Good Shepherd Food Bank to apply for additional grant funding to help support the increased need. Bank of America’s support extends back more than 20 years, both locally and through the Charitable Foundation, and helps meet the urgent needs of neighbors today, while investing in long term food security solutions.

For over two decades, the New Balance Foundation has supported statewide access programs. Their long-time generosity demonstrates true dedication to Maine communities, with this year’s grant bringing the Foundation’s cumulative giving to $1 million over our 21-year partnership.

We are grateful to the New Balance Foundation for their investment in Maine children, for helping to build the systems and capacity required to meet today’s hunger needs, and ensuring families have access to the nutritious food we all need to thrive.

Thank you, New Balance Foundation, for leading the way as a Visionary Partner of Good Shepherd Food Bank’s Corporate Partners for a Hunger-Free Maine!

Thank you to BJ's Wholesale Club, a Visionary Partner of Corporate Partners for a Hunger-Free Maine, for donating the equivalent of more than 360,000 meals to Maine's hunger-relief network last year.

Each of the state's three BJ's locations donate surplus meat, dairy, produce, and baked goods to their community's food pantries, as part of the company's longstanding work to provide nutritious food to neighbors and reduce food waste.

Good Shepherd Food Bank is incredibly grateful for our longstanding partnership with Maine credit unions, whose generosity has made a meaningful difference in ensuring Mainers have access to the food they need to thrive.

Heather Paquette, President of Good Shepherd Food Bank, shared that Maine credit unions are among the organization’s most generous supporters:
“They have contributed over $1.3 million to the Food Bank alone and millions of dollars to help end hunger in our state since their Campaign began in 1990. We are incredibly grateful for their continued support and partnership.”

Thank you to Maine credit unions for your ongoing commitment to ending hunger and strengthening communities across Maine.

🤝 When credit unions come together, they make a difference.

Nearly every Maine credit union joined forces through the 48 to Feed the State initiative, raising $100,000 to support Good Shepherd Food Bank and help them fight food insecurity across our state.

This effort reflects the cooperative spirit that defines Maine's credit union movement. Together, we can make an even greater impact for the communities we serve. 💙

Food Bank volunteers make an incredible impact every day, and we're proud to celebrate their dedication through our Apple Corps Volunteer Recognition Program! 🍎

Volunteers are recognized for the hours they serve:
🍎Apple Blossom – 25+ hours
🍏Courtland – 100+ hours
🍎McIntosh – 200+ hours
🍏 JoAnn Pike – 500+ hours

Since 2021, 20 volunteers have reached the McIntosh milestone by contributing more than 200 hours of service. Whether they're packing food boxes, sorting and inspecting donated food, or assisting with administrative tasks at our two Food Bank locations, their dedication helps make our mission possible.

Today, we are highlighting six of these volunteers from the Auburn Distribution Center who continue to volunteer with us. Thank you for your dedication!
