4-H Day Camps are happening all across Alabama, and this is just one great example from Winston County!

Recently, 4-H participants had the opportunity to attend Vet Camp, where they explored the world of animal care through hands-on learning experiences. With guidance from Dr. Harmony Glenn, Zack Brannon (County Extension Director), Allyson Taylor Evans (4-H Extension Agent), and Betsy Robbins (County Office Admin), campers learned about the important role veterinarians play in agriculture and how they help keep farm animals healthy.

From learning basic animal care skills to discovering careers in veterinary medicine, these students spent the day gaining valuable knowledge while having fun along the way!

"The camp was a true community effort, supported by Extension staff, veterinary vendors, and local partners. For those of us practicing veterinary medicine in the community we grew up in, the opportunity to invest in the next generation was especially meaningful. This program established a strong foundation for future camps and ongoing collaboration, helping cultivate interest and skills in the animal health workforce for years to come," said Dr. Glenn.

Another amazing trip to 4-H Clover Capitol in Washington D.C. is in the books. This time it was to kick-off the second cohort of the 4-H Roth Scholar Leadership Academy!🍀🤲

Now through 2028, each of these 5 Alabama 4-H’ers will work with National 4-H to develop a community service project to address a need in their community. Alabama is 1 of 5 states participating in the 4-H Roth Scholar program.

Our group had a wonderful time meeting their colleagues from other states, hearing from industry professionals from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and learning more about the positive change they can bring to their communities through the program. They took in the beautiful sights of the city and made wonderful friends along the way. Thank you 4-H and the late Joel Roth for creating opportunities for youth to grow into leaders that are for the world ahead!
