Did you know Michigan’s smallest city has fewer than 300 residents?
Full Story: https://www.awesomemitten.com/omer-michigans-smallest-city/?utm_source=fb-awesome-mitten
Omer holds the title of Michigan’s smallest city, with a population of just 274 people. The entire town covers only 1.16 square miles, making it easy to miss if you’re traveling along US-23 near the Lake Huron shoreline.

Originally called Rifle River Mills for the nearby Rifle River, the town got its current name after a founder tried to call it Homer — but Michigan already had one, so the “H” was dropped.

Despite its tiny size, the city has some fun local quirks, including a springtime “Suckerfest” fishing competition and a historic 19th-century railroad bridge spanning the river.

It may be small, but this little Michigan town has plenty of history packed into a very tiny footprint.
