3/11/26 update: We have been informed that those impacted by the fire have been connected with Red Cross and have found places to stay. The Closet Exchange will be open every Friday and Saturday 9-1, other than holiday weekends, and the fire victims are welcome to continue coming in to get clothing and other needed items. At this time, we are temporarily pausing accepting donations, as SO much came in the past 2 days. We will keep everyone posted when we start accepting donations again.

Original post:
There was a fire at Rousseau Apartments over night. If you know any of the 14+ families impacted, please let them know that The Closet Exchange is opening its doors today, Tues 8-2, Wed 10-2, Fri 9-1, Sat 9-1. We have tables and chairs and a warm space for them. We have clothing and basic hygiene items available.

An emergency shelter is in place at Deep River Township Hall in sterling. The county emergency manager is there and can provide more resources.

We are encouraging people to call 1-800-red-cross and 211 for additional resources.

As soon as we know more about specific needs, we will post and share.

We have a generous donor that has helped contribute towards the cost of a propane tank for the family of the fire on Swenson Rd. We are looking for additional donations to help pay for the balance of that purchase.... and we are trying to help them get a large dumpster to help with hauling away fire debris. If you can financial assist, please reach out to us on our page, or directly to Amanda Goodson .

A couple lost their home last night in a fire in Au Gres. The are temporarily staying in a loft of the garage. But they dont have heat or water.

The immediate needs are listed below.

A Mr. Buddy heater, with hose or some other safer heating option.

Water jugs or a water dispenser.

Cash and gift card to local restaurants would also be a blessing for them to purchase the other things they may need and so they are able to have warm cooked meals.
