We seek to create communities free from violence and exploitation. New Hope works to create communities free from violence and exploitation. We offer emergency and supportive services for women, men and children who are survivors of domestic and sexual violence. Last week, we were in for a treat as the Marlborough Eagle Riders rode to our Attleboro office to spend time with Christine and Diana. They presented New Hope with a check, the proceeds for a ride they organized earlier this summer. This group isn't a "bike club" but rather an arm of their community's Fraternal Order of Eagles, with the mission of helping others while sharing their love of riding.

Children can be impacted by domestic violence both directly or indirectly. Direct exposure includes witnessing or hearing acts of violence, while indirect exposure occurs when children sense fear, stress, or the consequences of violence in their home environment.

Children living with domestic violence often experience a range of emotional and behavioral effects. When a child becomes exposed to domestic violence, support should be given for their emotional, social, and educational wellbeing.

Black Indigenous People of Color or BIPOC face higher rates of domestic abuse. 45% of black women, 48% of indigenous women, and 34.4% of Latina women will experience some sort of abuse. Abuse disproportionately affects women in the BIPOC community. Despite the higher rates of abuse, BIPOC women are less likely to seek help due to barriers and fear of discrimination.

Today is Women's Equality Day. Today commemorates the addition of the 19th Amendment, which granted women the right to vote. However, it also serves as a reminder of the trials and tribulations women still face today, and it serves as a reminder of how far we have come.

In the United States, 1 in 4 women have been affected by domestic violence, and almost 40% of women have experienced sexual violence, physical violence, or stalking by an intimate partner compared to 26-28% of men. However, only 20-25% of these incidents are reported to police, and even fewer of those cases result in an arrest.

We often hear the myth that men can not be victims of abuse. However, that is far from the truth. Around 1 in 3 men experience some sort of abuse. While 1 in 6 men experience sexual abuse. This abuse can range from psychological, emotional, physical, and sexual abuse. However, this abuse often goes unreported due to fear of not being taken seriously and the harsh societal stigma surrounding the topic.

Happy National Non-Profit Day! Here at New Hope, we strive to support all survivors of domestic and sexual violence across our 41 communities in Massachusetts.

We offer a wide variety of free and comprehensive services which combine crisis intervention, violence prevention, life transition, and self-sufficiency opportunities, while promoting awareness and education on domestic and sexual violence.
