My son Myles wast taken 16 years ago today. It was a warm day for late September (as it is now) - perfect to ride his motorcycle. That bright yellow GSXR with a loud pipe that I could hear from 3 towns over, It would make me smile as I could hear him heading home. However, that bright yellow bike, his headlight or even that obnoxious loud pipe couldn't save him. A second look was not taken, a right of way was not given and respect and compassion left behind. My Myles was gone.
There is no way to describe the hole in my heart. Grieving mothers have to live with that deep pain for the rest of their life. The anxiety and fear that take over as their passing date nears is crippling - and here I am September 24th - exhausted. I can remember what I was wearing that day, details of conversations, reactions of others - yet I can't recall what I did yesterday.
I am always reminded of that deep sorrow within - there is a part of me missing. Losing a child changes your life.
Thoughts of my children not only losing their brother but also the parents they knew - especially their Mom. They too carry heavy hearts and have to face life without Myles. Something that makes me feel helpless.
In the big cloud of grief, there is a treasure. When they speak of him - it is always a funny story and immediately brings a smile to my face.
I try my best daily to be healthy, strong and a better person. A gift to all of my children (yes that means Myles too) grandchildren and most of all myself. Some days are harder than others.....this being one of them.
Myles consumes my mind. I want him to come home now...16 years is long enough. I am tired -
