Hello everyone...
September 13, 2025 will be the 54th anniversary of the Attica Prison Riot. How does it seem that time flies by, yet some of us will never forget the images, sounds or how the tension and emotions of that week felt? Almost like it was just yesterday. We keep the hostages and their loved ones in mind every time we walk through or drive past those gray walls. We often think of their stories and memories they’ve shared. We vow to NEVER forget what they went through. That week changed countless lives and our correctional systems forever.
We will gather once again, as we have for decades in the past and generations to come…to honor and remember all those involved. Every year on September 13th, we stand together at the Forgotten Victims Memorial at 4pm and again at 5pm for the departments service in front of Attica Correctional Facility. We invite you all to join us in remembrance.

Not Attica but interesting. On August 19, 1934, notorious gangster Al Capone was transferred from the U.S. Penitentiary in Atlanta to the newly opened federal prison on Alcatraz Island (arriving on August 22nd). Given the secrecy surrounding the move and the need to prevent any escape plots from Capone's gang, the transfer was a highly coordinated effort. A heavily guarded train, transported Capone and nearly 50 other inmates across the country on a secret and often changing route to evade the press and any potential break attempts. The train's final destination was not San Francisco, but rather the small town of Tiburon, California. There, the two passenger cars were loaded onto a barge and towed across the bay, passing the partially completed Golden Gate Bridge, and finally arriving at Alcatraz on August 22, 1934.
