Scouting America – Wilderness First Aid (WFA) Hybrid Course

The Wilderness First Aid (WFA) Hybrid Course is designed to prepare Scouts, leaders, and outdoor adventurers to respond confidently to medical emergencies in remote environments where help may be delayed.

This nationally recognized course follows Scouting America high-adventure guidelines and is ideal for:

High Adventure participants (Philmont, Northern Tier, Sea Base, Summit)

Scout leaders and adult advisors
Camp staff
Outdoor enthusiasts
Anyone spending extended time in the backcountry
What You’ll Learn:

Patient assessment in remote settings

Stabilizing injuries and illnesses
Managing fractures, sprains, and dislocations
Treating environmental emergencies (heat, cold, lightning)
Wound care and bleeding control
Evacuation decision-making
Leadership during backcountry emergencies
This hybrid format combines online learning with hands-on, in-person practical skills training to ensure participants are prepared for real-world situations.

Participants may also enroll in the CPR/AED course, which complements WFA training and meets Scouting America and high-adventure program requirements.

Scouts BSA welcomes girls aged 11-17 to participate in the traditional, outdoor-focused Scouting program, allowing them to earn the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout. Since 2019, girls have joined in separate, all-girl troops to experience camping, hiking, leadership training, and high adventure while following the same curriculum as boys.
