Bob Middlesworth was a mentor, a trusted advisor, and a dear friend to generations of Local 54 staff and members. He began his career at Local 54 in 1981 as a Business Agent and quickly rose to a leadership position. Over the decades, he became an invaluable leader of the Grievance and Arbitration Department and the Union’s historian.

But what made Bob truly special was not just his extraordinary knowledge and experience, but the calm, steady presence he brought to every situation. In times of crisis, when problems seemed insurmountable, Bob had a remarkable ability to bring us back to reality, put things in perspective, and remind us that even the toughest challenges could be overcome.

For decades, he led the Grievance and Arbitration Department with unmatched skill and dedication, winning grievances and arbitrations, resolving even the most difficult cases, and sharing his wisdom generously with everyone around him. He was a teacher, a trusted confidant, and our moral compass. Bob approached his work and his life with unwavering integrity, honesty, and a deep sense of fairness.

He never hesitated to give his time, share his knowledge, or help someone who needed guidance. His generosity made everyone around him better, and his influence will live on through the countless people he mentored and the lessons he taught us.

Bob was also an incredibly talented member of the Local 54 staff. Whether he was singing or playing his guitar at Local 54 events, he brought a special warmth and spirit to the room. He was so much more than a colleague. He was part of our Local 54 family.

Bob’s passing is an immeasurable loss for our staff, our membership, and our entire union family. His wisdom, friendship, integrity, and steady presence will never be forgotten. We were fortunate to have known him, learned from him, and worked alongside him. He leaves behind a legacy that will endure for generations.

He will be remembered with profound respect, deeply missed and loved forever.

We joined the Atlantic-Cape Out of the Darkness walk and fundraiser yesterday. It was an honor to have participated and supported such a great cause.
