Data centers are growing across Georgia, and with that growth comes a major question: who pays for the enormous amount of power they require?

For this week’s GCV Two-Minute Tuesday, GCV-endorsed Georgia Public Service Commissioner Peter Hubbard breaks down the scale of data center energy demand, the cost of building out Georgia’s power grid to meet it, and why strong oversight matters to make sure those costs aren’t shifted onto everyday Georgians.

As Hubbard puts it, Georgia could be looking at building “a really large part of our grid all over again just for data centers.”

Commissioner Hubbard is running for reelection this November for a full six-year term on the Georgia Public Service Commission.

On September 16, GCVIP members are invited to join us for an exclusive Happy Hour featuring Judge Penny Brown Reynolds, Democratic candidate for Georgia Secretary of State.

The Secretary of State oversees critical business and licensing functions in Georgia, including the administration of our statewide elections. Judge Penny is proposing to expand voter access, cut business red tape, modernize the office and strengthen cybersecurity and fraud protections.

Groundswell is the powerful final chapter of a groundbreaking documentary trilogy following Kiss The Ground and Common Ground. Narrated by Demi Moore and Woody Harrelson, this sweeping cinematic journey across five continents explores regenerative agriculture—a practical, proven set of farming practices that build living soil, store carbon deep underground, and produce nutrient-dense food.
