We’re so proud to see the Schulte Sport Horse Team and Ghost featured in the Retired Racehorse Project’s 2026–2030 Strategic Plan brochure.
While Ghost is not a Bluestem horse, we’ve always admired the Retired Racehorse Project’s commitment to Thoroughbred aftercare and responsible second careers. Their focus on long-term welfare closely aligns with what we believe at Bluestem. The real work is rehabilitation, education, and sending horses out of our gates prepared, trained, and set up to stay safe throughout their lives.
Last year’s Thoroughbred Makeover was no small undertaking. The broodmare herd arrived at Bluestem on September 30, 2025. And four days later, we loaded up and headed to Kentucky, carefully coordinating who would stay behind to monitor the herd and who could travel. It was truly a family effort.
While we love participating in the Makeover, the meaning behind that week ran deeper last year. Competing carried extra weight, knowing there was a herd of horses back at home who had been failed so badly and were now depending on us to do better by them.
We’re grateful for programs like the Retired Racehorse Project’s Thoroughbred Makeover that elevate aftercare and set a higher standard for the equine industry. We hope to continue being involved in partnerships that bring greater awareness to equine welfare and equip the next generation of horsewomen and men with the knowledge and tools to build successful lasting partnerships.
