Three years ago, Haley couldn't imagine riding a bike long distances - but last September, she rode 400 miles on the California Coast Classic! 💚 Living with ankylosing spondylitis, a form of inflammatory arthritis that causes chronic pain and stiffness, kept Haley on the sidelines for 10 years, but the humble bicycle 🚲 and the support of Arthritis Foundation Cycling helped change her life. This is why we ride!

"The main reason I felt comfortable taking something like this on was knowing that everyone there either knows firsthand what it’s like to have this disease or is more than willing to learn and accommodate," says Haley.

Living with chronic pain can be hard — and being hard on yourself can make it even harder.

In this episode of Live Yes! With Arthritis, mindfulness expert Dr. Christiane Wolf, MD, PhD, explores how self-compassion and mindfulness may help you manage stress, navigate difficult emotions and change the way you experience pain.

Tune in for a reminder that self-compassion isn’t self-pity — it’s giving yourself the same kindness and understanding you’d offer a friend. 🎧

Celebrating a Champion of Care: Dr. Michael B. Jacobs 👏

We’re proud to announce Dr. Michael B. Jacobs of Precision Orthopedics & Sports Medicine as the 2026 Champion of Care Orthopedic Honoree for the Montgomery County Jingle Bell Run!

Dr. Jacobs served more than 20 years as a physician in the U.S. Navy Medical Corps, including a tour at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, where he treated service members recovering from complex war injuries. That experience inspired him to specialize in pain medicine.

Board-certified in Pain Medicine and Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, Dr. Jacobs now practices with Precision Orthopedics, helping patients manage arthritis and chronic pain through a personalized, multi-modal approach.

A Navy veteran and dedicated advocate for service members, Dr. Jacobs is honored to support the Arthritis Foundation’s mission and the community of runners and families affected by arthritis.

🎄 Meet Our 2026 Solomons Island Jingle Bell Run Youth Champion of Courage: Ashlynn! ❤️🎄

We are thrilled to announce Ashlynn as our 2026 Youth Champion of Courage Honoree for the Arthritis Foundation’s Solomons Island Jingle Bell Run!

Currently a sophomore at Huntingtown High School, Ashlynn loves playing softball, reading, and spending time with friends. But her journey with juvenile arthritis began long before her diagnosis.

At around 8 years old, Ashlynn began experiencing what seemed like “growing pains,” particularly in her knees. The pain would fade and return, and it wasn’t until she was 13 that she was finally diagnosed with Juvenile Arthritis (JIA). While living with JIA can be a long and challenging road, Ashlynn has faced it with incredible courage and determination. She has become an active member of the JIA community, supporting others living with arthritis and advocating for greater investment in JIA research.
Ashlynn hopes to become a Nurse Practitioner one day, continuing her passion for helping others.

This December, Ashlynn will be leading her incredible Turbo Turtles team at the Solomons Island Jingle Bell Run! 🐢 https://events.arthritis.org/teams/43448
Her team is helping raise awareness and funds to support the Arthritis Foundation’s mission to improve the lives of people living with arthritis and work toward a cure.

Please join us in celebrating Ashlynn and cheering on the Turbo Turtles on December 5th at Tiki Bar in Solomons Island Maryland 💚 --> register www.jbr.org/solomons
