Today, on Memorial Day, we pause to remember the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.
At the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA, nearly 29,000 flags are placed at gravesites. Each one is more than a tradition—it is a promise that their sacrifice will never be forgotten.
The tradition of reading each name aloud and offering a prayer at each gravesite reminds us that every headstone represents a story, a family, and a life given in service. As long as their name is said aloud, they are not forgotten.
The motto we use with the Scouts and other youth is “Remember • Honor • Teach.”
Remember their courage.Honor their sacrifice.Teach the next generation why freedom carries such a high cost.
From sunrise until noon, our flag flies at half-staff in remembrance, then rises to full staff to honor their legacy and the freedoms they defended.
