Erica was involved in a severe car crash that damaged her right leg, and following the accident, she endured several difficult surgeries. Erica then noticed that she was feeling some discomfort in her left leg, and it was discovered that two of her ligaments were damaged. With the help of donor tissue, she was able to have the damage repaired. After surgery, she took time to acknowledge the opportunity she had gained because of another person’s selfless gift. She wanted her donor family to know that their loved one had positively impacted her life in a very significant way. β€œI do my best to spread the word. I want everyone to know how many people are touched by donation and how many can benefit from it. Because of tissue donation, my quality of life is better than it ever was before.” After a lengthy recovery period, Erika can walk around her city and hike with her wife and dogs. πŸ’™πŸ’š Learn more about tissue donation at DonateLife.net. When June was younger, her brother, Brian, went into kidney failure. Her dad, a Navy Veteran of the Vietnam War, was able to be Brian's living kidney donor. After nearly 20 years with his donated kidney, Brian was in need of another transplant. Now much older, June was able to get tested to be her brother's living donor, and in 2005, June and Brian underwent a successful transplant. Thanks to the generosity of June and her dad, their family had many more years with Brian, but sadly, Brian passed away from organ failure in 2014. Now, June is an advocate for donation, volunteering and competing in the Transplant Games of America. πŸ’™πŸ’š Register your decision to be an organ, eye and tissue donor and learn more about living donation at DonateLife.net

On , we honor the individuals who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Corporal Benjamin S. Kopp, a member of the 75th Army Ranger Regiment, saved six of his comrades when his unit came under attack in Afghanistan. He was mortally wounded and saved four more lives back in the United States through his selfless gift of organ donation. To honor Corporal Kopp and all other brave soldiers who became organ, eye and tissue donors, the Fallen Soldier statue stands at the National Donor Memorial and honors members of our military who made organ, eye, and tissue donation their last courageous act of service. The site is a place of peace for all who wish to honor the gift of life! πŸ’™πŸ’š

At age 25, Maria was diagnosed with Alport Syndrome, a rare genetic disorder that causes progressive kidney disease. After two decades of battling the disease, her kidneys eventually went into complete failure. She was referred to the Mayo Clinic to begin the process of evaluation and placement on the kidney transplant waiting list. After a procedure to remove a mass on her right kidney, Maria started daily dialysis treatments. Her sister traveled from North Carolina to be with her and shared Maria's story on social media, asking friends and family to consider becoming a living donor. A cousin they had never met reached out after seeing the message. Maria's transplant took place in June of 2022. The surgery was successful, and because of her cousin's generosity, Maria was given a second chance at life. "Today, I am blessed to be here, healthy and able to enjoy life again. My son will graduate from high school [this month], and I look forward to watching him build a beautiful future. This journey taught me that miracles are real, that family can arrive in unexpected ways, and that a single act of love can save a life." πŸ’™πŸ’š Learn more about living donation at DonateLife.net

A wonderful day was spent in Gwinnett at the Stripers game on 4/26!

The event brought together LifeLink, Piedmont, and Emory staff, along with transplant patients, their families, and many organ donorsβ€”creating a powerful and inspiring atmosphere.

With a dedicated table presence and in-game teleprompter messages, the goal was to raise awareness and encourage more individuals to register as organ donors. Every registration has the potential to save lives πŸ’™

"I received a heart transplant as a child. I was very young when my family got the call that a donor heart was available, and that call changed the entire course of my life. My donor was Christian Caruana. Because he was registered as an organ donor, and because his mom, Mary, said yes to organ donation in the middle of unimaginable grief, I am alive today. Because of that decision, I’ve been able to grow up. I’ve graduated. I’ve built a career. I’ve laughed with friends, loved deeply, and experienced milestones I never would have had without a transplant. Organ donation didn’t just save my life, it gave me a future.

When you register as a donor, you’re not just checking a box. You’re giving someone more birthdays, more ordinary days that feel extraordinary, more time with the people they love. I live every day grateful for the gift I was given. If you’ve ever considered registering, I hope my story encourages you to say yes." – Payton. πŸ’™πŸ’š Register your decision to be an organ, eye and tissue donor at RegisterMe.org today.
