American Association of Blacks in Energy Atlanta Chapter

Since 1982, the Atlanta Chapter of AABE has been developing energy professionals, building the next generation of talent and investing in our communities.

Since 1982, the Atlanta Chapter of the American Association of Blacks in Energy (AABE) has been developing energy professionals, building the next generation of talent and investing in our communities. The Chapter includes members from several, large energy corporations, many of them with headquarters or major regional hubs in Atlanta. Among them are Siemens, AGL Resources, GE, Georgia Power, and

Georgia Natural Gas. The Chapter is one of 11 AABE Chapters in the southeast region, and it has approximately 150 members. It is a strong, viable Chapter with committed leaders and dedicated members. The goals of the Atlanta Chapter are as follows:

• Increase awareness of energy-related issues within our communities
• Award scholarships to students interested in pursuing energy-related careers
• Provide value-add programming to our membership
• Support the agenda of the national office of AABE

These goals are designed to incorporate activities sponsored by the national office of AABE to impact the community through student activities, mentoring programs, and educational forums and to provide opportunities for leadership and service for members. AABE Atlanta’s areas of focus are:

Career and Professional Development - Facilitate business and networking interactions that grow our people. Scholarships and Awards – Award scholarships annually to outstanding minority students who plan to pursue higher education, especially in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). Awareness – Communicate the importance of energy to our members, the community, and other stakeholders, and position AABE as a resource for important issues through various media. Energy Policy Development – Develop a reputation as a resource for important energy policy making.

This year marks a truly exciting milestone for AABE Atlanta! The AABE Atlanta J.K. Davis Scholarship Program has now proudly invested $1 million into the educational journeys of talented and deserving scholars over the past 32 years. Just this past Thursday, we awarded $60,000 in scholarships to outstanding students who represent the bright future of energy, innovation, and leadership—helping us reach this incredible $1 million milestone.

We want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Chris Womack, Chairman, President & CEO of Southern Company, and Kim Greene, Chairman, President & CEO of Georgia Power, for delivering such inspiring remarks at our program. Their leadership and dedication to empowering the next generation truly make a lasting impact on all of us.
Congratulations to all our scholarship recipients! These scholars have demonstrated exceptional promise, determination, and vision. We are so proud to support their academic pursuits and look forward to seeing the many ways they will shape the future of our industry and communities. As we celebrate this important achievement, we are reminded that investing in our youth is an investment in our collective future.
