Voting rights are under attack and our communities are still paying the price.

When voter protections are gutted, access gets harder. When access gets harder, power gets weaker. And when power gets weaker, Black communities are the first to face the consequences.

This is why information matters.
This is why organizing matters.
This is why staying engaged before, during, and after every election cycle matters.

Protecting democracy means making sure our communities have the tools, resources, and trusted information needed to fight back.

As Esosa Osa said:

“Today is where we start saying no more.”

No more attacks on our history.
No more attacks on our wealth.
No more attacks on our political power.

Stay informed. Stay engaged. Stay ready.

The Supreme Court has allowed Alabama to move forward with a congressional map that lower courts previously found intentionally discriminated against Black voters. The decision follows a recent ruling that weakened key protections under the Voting Rights Act and could have major implications for voting rights and representation across the South.

When maps determine whose voices count, democracy itself is on the ballot.

Angela Rye said it with the urgency this moment demands:

Get informed.
Understand what you can do.
Stay locked in.

At Onyx Impact, that is exactly why we do this work.

Because protecting our voting rights and advancing Black communities requires more than awareness. It requires trusted information, collective action, and a commitment to showing up for one another.

This is a critical hour.

A time to reject misinformation.
A time to protect our rights.
A time to invest in the tools, voices, and institutions helping our communities move with clarity and power.

As Angela said:
“We got us. We need us.”

Let’s go.

The Congressional Black Caucus just sent a letter to Corporate America with four clear demands — and they're not asking nicely.

After the Supreme Court's ruling in Louisiana v. Callais, Republican-led states across the South are already redrawing maps to erase Black political representation. This is happening now.

Five years ago, 200+ corporations pledged to protect voting rights. The CBC is calling the debt due.

Silence is not neutrality. It's complicity.

Swipe to see the four demands. Link in comments for the full letter. 🔗

AI is shaping the future — and Black communities deserve to be part of how that future gets built.

Because when we are left out of the room, the consequences are real.

Bias gets coded in.
Misinformation spreads faster.
Our history gets erased.

That is why Aisha exists.

Aisha is part of Onyx Impact’s work to build trusted, culturally grounded tools that help Black communities navigate information, technology, and civic life with clarity and power.

The future of AI should reflect the people it impacts.

Our stories matter.
Our data matters.
Our communities matter.
Our voices belong in the room.

The fight for voting rights didn’t start in 1965. And it didn’t end there either.

This clip comes from Otis' Dream, a documentary that follows the story of Otis Moss Sr. and his determination to vote in 1946 Georgia, a time & place where exercising that right could be deadly for Black Americans.

Today, the tactics look different:
Voter purges
Gerrymandering
Court rulings weakening the Voting Rights Act
Barriers designed to make participation harder

But the underlying question remains the same: Who gets a voice in our democracy?

Watch Otis' Dream and learn the story of those who fought for a right many still take for granted.

Before you trust any AI tool, ask better questions.

Who trained it?
Who owns it?
Who gets protected?
Who gets processed?
Who carries the environmental cost?
And was it ever tested with Black communities in mind?

AI is moving fast, but speed does not equal safety. A tool can be powerful and still be biased. It can be convenient and still extractive. It can say it’s “for everyone” while leaving our communities out of the decisions that shape it.

We believe AI should act differently.

Black-owned. Black-led. Trained with consent. Audited for bias. Built to protect our privacy. Developed to maximize accuracy, minimize harm, and expand possibility for Black people.

Meet Aisha.

For weeks, the conversation has centered on attacks against voting rights and Black political representation.

But another story is unfolding too.

Across the South, communities are organizing, pushing back, showing up in courtrooms, at ballot boxes, and in statehouses.

South Carolina stalled efforts to eliminate a majority-Black district.

Louisiana voters rejected every proposed constitutional amendment.

Alabama’s discriminatory congressional map was blocked in court.

And Mississippi organizers mobilized thousands before new maps are finalized.

These victories didn’t happen by accident. They happened because Black people fought for them.

The headlines have focused on attacks against Black voting power.

And those threats are real.

But across the South, organizers, voters, advocates, and communities are still fighting back — and winning critical battles in real time.

South Carolina advocates stalled a push to eliminate a majority-Black district.

Louisiana voters rejected every proposed constitutional amendment from their governor and launched a recall effort.

Alabama’s discriminatory map was blocked in court.

Mississippi communities mobilized thousands of people in Jackson before new maps are drawn.

The story isn’t just suppression.
It’s resistance too.
