Finally getting some rain, finally! I took the chance to broadcast buckwheat and drag it in with my hi-tech mattress springs! Buckwheat is not only good for the soil, the bees I keep will love it.

Spring is here so it may be time to get out in your woods and do some of those projects you dreamed about while you were sitting in your stand and the deer weren't cooperating. FSI, or forest stand improvement, is one tool you can use. I've not done any massive improvements but have been pretty successful thinning the sweetgums out of some areas using "hack and sq**rt". Have also seen good results "releasing" some crabapple trees so more light gets to them, thus producing more fruit. See if this article gives you some motivation before it gets too hot and the air conditioning is too attractive! Good luck!

Learn five ground rules of Forest Stand Improvement that will help you start using a fantastic technique for revitalizing deer habitat where you hunt.

If you missed Kip Adams webinar on State of the Whitetail in the US, it was very informative on the deer herd, harvest balance between bucks and does along with the age structure, and good info on EHD and CWD. It was a little over an hour with a lot of good Q&A. Take a look and share with your hunting buddies! And as always, think about joining the young Georgia Branch of the National Deer Association.

This webinar on the State of the Whitetail by NDA’s Kip Adams reviewed the findings of our 2026 Deer Report. Recorded live on February 19, 20265, this webina...

As I'm watching it snow in Augusta, just reflecting on the successes of this past season. From hosting a Field to Fork event at Crabapple Farm to adding some meat to the freezer, was a great fall. Share your favorite photos with the Georgia Branch.

Check out the newest Deer Report!

Our latest Deer Report is out! We found U.S. hunters gave the antlerless deer harvest a much-needed boost in the 2024-25 season, putting the total back above 3 million for only the third time in 11 years. Also, deer hunters took the highest percentage of 3Β½-year-old and older bucks ever recorded! Details here πŸ‘‡πŸ‘‡

From an outsider’s perspective, hunting might seem unnecessary, selfish, and even brutal. But many hunters would describe it as the exact opposite. In a 2025 article for our site, we explore the reality of hunters that would probably surprise those who don't hunt. Read it now at πŸ‘‡πŸ‘‡
