We are a residential school in Kenya empowering children to lead their communities out of poverty. January 2016, we added another class.

Canopy Life Academy prepares children in Kenya to create a better future for themselves and their communities. We do this through Christ-centered mentoring, quality education and environments that spark the imagination. We are a boarding school east of Nairobi Kenya that provides students with the space, resources, skills, opportunities and freedom to develop ideas that are New and Strong for thei

r communities. Specifically, we integrate discipleship, the arts, and design thinking principles (Standford University D:School) into the national curriculum to encourage both the character and the innovative entrepreneurship in young children. Canopy Life opened in January 2015 with one class of 4th graders. Our goal is to add a grade each year until we are full sized at 4th-12th grade. You can partner with us by giving to our mission, coming to Kenya to visit our students or becoming a sponsor/global mentor for a child.

Today, Kenya celebrates Madaraka Day, a day that marks the moment the nation gained self-governance and took an important step toward independence.

As part of the celebration on campus, Michelle shared a message that included a powerful reminder:

"Freedom comes with responsibility."

We couldn't agree more. At Canopy Life, we believe young people have a voice worth hearing. Their ideas matter. Their perspectives matter. Their leadership matters.

One of the greatest privileges of our work is watching students grow in confidence as they learn to speak up, serve others, and take responsibility for the communities around them. We are proud of Michelle and all of our students who continue to lead the way with courage and hopeful wisdom.

As we celebrate Madaraka Day, we're reminded that the future of Kenya is being shaped by young leaders who are learning that freedom is not only a gift to enjoy, but a responsibility to steward well.

These are the kinds of leaders who become Agents of Transformation—leaders who create solutions, serve their communities, and help shape a brighter future for their nation.

2017 ➡️ 2026 🥹

Now these students are becoming thoughtful leaders, problem solvers, encouragers, creators, and young people who carry hope, light, and the love of Jesus into the spaces around them.

And somehow, in the middle of all that growth, there’s still something so sweet about catching glimpses of the young kids they once were. Watching children become confident. Watching students discover their gifts, their voices, and the ways they can impact the world around them.

Nearly 10 years later, we’re so grateful for every person who has prayed for, encouraged, supported, visited, and grown alongside this community over the years.

What a gift it’s been to grow together.

Every detail matters at Canopy Life because every student who walks onto campus matters deeply. From the spaces where they study and rest to the moments of connection, encouragement, and growth that happen each day, we want every part of campus life to reflect the care and belonging students experience here.

Now, we’re raising $75,000 to furnish and equip the spaces students will soon call home. Because of your generosity, we’ve already raised $34,725 and are nearly halfway there—but there’s still work to do.

This week, we’re focusing on the living rooms—spaces where students will gather for movie nights, devotions, conversations, encouragement, and rest throughout daily life on campus.

$250 will fund decor and curtains that make a space feel warm and welcoming
$550 will provide things like a TV and wall mount used for movie nights and devotions

During a recent cultural celebration, some of our staff joined Canopy Life student, Delight for a dance and the joy was contagious 💃🏾 The moments we share with our visitors during these celebrations are always some of our favorite moments ❤️

Laughter, movement, cheering each other on… the kind of moment that reminds you joy doesn’t have to be complicated to be meaningful.

So here’s our challenge to you: Take a second and dance along with us today.

The dining room holds so much more than meals. It’s where students gather multiple times each day to share food, conversation, encouragement, and daily life together. At Canopy Life, these spaces help students feel connected, known, and at home.

Right now, we’re working to complete the dining spaces before students begin moving in.

$1,500 can help furnish an entire dining space, providing things like:

A handmade 9-foot dining table
Benches and chairs for student seating
Curtains and sheers
Notice boards for communication and updates
Refillable art frames for devotions and teaching content

There’s something powerful about a table. At Canopy Life, the dining spaces are where students and staff gather multiple times each day to share meals, spend time together, and build community.

Around these tables, students will share meals like ugali, chapati, and stew while conversation, friendship, and a sense of home grow alongside them.

These spaces help students feel nourished, connected, and known.

There’s something beautiful about being known enough to jump into the game, laugh loudly, cheer each other on, and feel like you belong there.

These ordinary moments matter deeply on campus.
This is part of how home is built. It's a place where students can exhale a little and where joy is shared freely. These moments remind us that joy still exists. That hope is still here.

Even when life feels heavy, even when the images on our screens seem too much to bear, Jesus reminds us there is still hope. He reminds us joy is still available to us when we seek His Kingdom first.

For years, this campus expansion at Canopy Life has been shaped through prayer, planning, generosity, and hard work.

Now, the buildings are nearly complete—and we need your help finishing the spaces inside them.

Together, we’re raising $75,000 to furnish and equip classrooms, dining spaces, living rooms, and innovation areas designed to help students learn, grow, and belong.

Students will begin moving in soon, and we have a short window to prepare these spaces well for the months and years ahead.
