Yesterday we held the first official kickoff meeting of the Initiative’s Steering Committee, a volunteer-led, 40-person advisory council of leaders, subject matter experts, and grassroots voices from across Atlanta’s LGBTQ+ community.

Over the course of their term, the Steering Committee will advise and help guide the development of the center across six key areas:

🏗️ Built Environment
🤝 Community Engagement
💰 Fundraising
⚙️ Operations & Sustainability
🗓️ Programming, Services, and Offerings
📊 Research & Evaluation

As we gear up for the next phase of the Initiative, we’ve called in some backup: our Steering Committee.

This 40-person body brings together nonprofit leaders, business executives, grassroots organizers, and neighbors who will advise us on strategy, lend subject-matter expertise, and keep community voice at the center of the work.

Please join us in welcoming Cameron Quadagno to the team this semester!

Cameron is a master’s student in Human-Computer Interaction at Georgia Tech. He earned his B.S. in Computer Science earlier this year and worked as a UX Researcher for the past two years, translating community and user feedback into actionable insights. A Georgia native, Cameron is also a teaching assistant, peer mentor, and club beach volleyball player at Georgia Tech.

As our Fall Fellow, Cameron is helping build the framework for our forthcoming Community Needs Assessment — the next phase of our ongoing research and community engagement.

Last night, we welcomed Steering Committee members, stakeholders, and friends as we officially opened our new office at CTR (formerly the CNN Center).

This downtown hub will serve as home base for our administrative and operational work as we continue the journey toward our forever home.

Please join us in welcoming Hannibal Hendrix Jr., our 2026 Summer Fellow. Hannibal is a part of Morehouse College’s Class of 2028 - pursuing a Political Science degree.

As our Summer Fellow, Hannibal is building a framework to turn the 2,800+ responses from the 2025 Feasibility Study into a community needs assessment. That work will let our team get more granular in the data — insight that will directly inform programming and spatial prioritization.

Hannibal also supports the setup of our new administrative office and assists both our Managing Director and our Director of Strategic Partnerships and Marketing Communications.

Please join us in welcoming Chiquita Dent, our new Director of Strategic Partnerships and Marketing Communications.

In this new role, Chiquita leads the development of our upcoming capital campaign and builds relationships with the key stakeholders and supporters who will help bring the Center to life.

She brings nearly two decades of marketing and partnership leadership to the Initiative, including managing a $350MM co-brand partnership at AT&T and directing omnichannel campaigns that reached millions of consumers.

As a fundraising strategist, she grew a major donor program’s participation from 3% to 68% over eight years and helped secure a $5M naming gift — the kind of relational, results-driven approach she now brings to our stakeholders and partners.

Applications are open for our Summer Fellow position on the Atlanta LGBTQ+ Community Center Initiative. This is a great opportunity for an undergraduate or graduate student interested in public service, urban design, and LGBTQ+ advocacy.

The Summer Fellow will gain direct exposure to site selection strategy, early design coordination, capital campaign planning, and second-phase community needs assessment efforts.
