Applications are open for our Summer Fellow position on the Atlanta LGBTQ+ Community Center Initiative. This is a great opportunity for an undergraduate or graduate student interested in public service, urban design, and LGBTQ+ advocacy.

The Summer Fellow will gain direct exposure to site selection strategy, early design coordination, capital campaign planning, and second-phase community needs assessment efforts.

How do you measure a year?

In 2024, Mayor and the commissioned a feasibility study to explore what it could take to create an LGBTQ+ Community Center in Atlanta.

Since then, we’ve had a few things on repeat:
🎧 Listening to Atlanta residents
📚 Research to understand community needs and gaps
📍 Site visits to peer cities and centers

The result is a practical roadmap intended to inform decision-making and potential next steps. Thank you to everyone who shared input, time, and trust. We’ll share more in the new year.

Last week, our team met with Mayor Andre Dickens to formally present the findings of the study. The conversation was thoughtful and collaborative, with a focus on long-term sustainability, community impact, and what it would take to move this work forward in a responsible and deliberate way.

As with any process of this nature, there is more to come. We are now awaiting guidance from Mayor Dickens, and we will share updates as next steps become available.

In the meantime, thank you for your continued interest, support, and belief in what’s possible for our community. We are deeply grateful for the care, time, and energy that so many of you have poured into this effort.

We are saddened to learn of the passing of Dave Hayward, an LGBTQ+ trailblazer here in Atlanta.

Dave was a force in our movement, and a historian among us. Most recently, Dave served as a subcommittee member of our Exploratory Committee, helping us develop a strategy to preserve and amplify Atlanta’s q***r history.

Last week, while on personal vacation, our Project Director stopped by — Dublin’s LGBTQ+ Community Centre. He met with staff, toured their open spaces, and enjoyed a cup (or two) of coffee. ☕️

Around the world, LGBTQ+ Community Centers serve as hubs for resource, connection, and culture. As we enter the final phase of the Atlanta LGBTQ+ Community Center Feasibility Study and prepare findings for the City of Atlanta, we know such a space here would stand as a testament to progress, inclusivity, and resilience. 🌈
