This week, we celebrated the heart and soul of healthcare - nurses! 💖 Here’s to all the incredible nurses out there, including Carleigh, who make a difference every single day:

As Carleigh reflects on her journey, she says that “it’s hard to pinpoint just one favorite day as a nurse. Each day brings its own unique blessings, from moments of triumph like patients receiving life-changing news to the small victories like a patient’s first smile after waking from a coma.” 🌟 These moments remind us why Carleigh chose this noble profession and inspire us to keep spreading hope and healing.

2️⃣ Carleigh’s own journey to becoming a nurse was sparked by the inspiring stories of her older sister, whose compassion and dedication showed her the true impact of nursing. 💕 From a young age, Carleigh knew she wanted to follow in her sister’s footsteps and be a source of comfort and care for others.

3️⃣ If Carleigh could offer advice to her younger self starting out in nursing, she would say this: “embrace the challenging days as opportunities for growth, and never lose sight of the profound difference you make in the lives of others. 🌈 Nursing is more than a job - it’s a calling filled with love, empathy, and endless possibilities.”

Join us in celebrating the unwavering dedication, kindness and compassion that our nurses provide to all of their patients each and every day. Today we are sharing the story of an incredible nurse who’s made a difference in pediatric transplant care. 

“They say that life is a gift and, truly, it is. For those children who suffer from acute or chronic kidney, liver, or small bowel disease, life is often fragile. The gift of organ donation blesses these ailing children with a second chance at life. 

My name is Mary Jane and I have been a pediatric nurse for almost 26 years and have 18 years of experience as a pediatric transplant nurse. I have dual certifications as a Certified Pediatric Nurse and Certified Clinical Transplant Nurse. 

Pediatric transplant nursing is a rare and specific specialty. Working on a unit that serves the pediatric transplant population has given me the opportunity to bear witness to the miracles of saving children who were once on the brink of death through organ transplantation. Watching these children recover from extreme illness and develop into healthier versions of themselves is an amazing privilege and the reason why I love pediatric transplant nursing.”

April is , a time to raise awareness about the importance of organ donation. As we focus on supporting those in need of life-saving transplants, let’s also shine a light on pediatric liver transplant and biliary atresia, the number one cause for liver transplants in children.

Every day, children with biliary atresia and other liver diseases are waiting for a chance at a new lease on life through a liver transplant. By registering to become an organ donor, you can give these children hope and a second chance at life.

Join us in celebrating Donate Life Month by learning more about pediatric liver transplant and biliary atresia, and considering becoming a registered organ donor to help save lives and give more children the gift of a brighter future. Meet Sydney and Julia. These two incredible girls are living their best lives after receiving their life-saving liver transplants. (Sydney is 2 years post transplant & Julia is 6 years post transplant.)

Their BA & transplant journey hasn’t been without challenges, but through it all, they’ve shown incredible resilience and optimism. Whether it’s facing medical check-ups with bravery or embracing life’s everyday joys with gratitude, they inspire us all to live with courage and hope.

Let’s honor the selflessness of organ donors and the importance of raising awareness about Biliary Atresia. Together, we can ensure that more BA warriors, of all ages, have the chance to experience the gift of life after transplant.
