This Sunday!

Ahavath Achim Response to Antisemitism and Hate Committee cordially invites you to a special screening of the powerful documentary Refuge, followed by a thought-provoking panel discussion on Sunday, September 28, 2025, from 4-6 PM. This panel features the film’s producer, Erin Bernhardt, and Chris Buckley, a former white nationalist featured in the film.

Refuge follows Chris Buckley’s remarkable journey to find healing from the very people he once hated: a Muslim cardiologist and his community of refugees. This powerful narrative of transformation, redemption, and the triumph of love over hate resonates deeply within the teachings at the heart of all faiths.

This documentary screening offers us a unique opportunity to explore themes of empathy, understanding, and resilience through the powerful medium of film and meaningful conversation. It demonstrates that even the most entrenched hatred can be overcome through genuine human connection and the courage to listen to one another’s stories.

The story of transformation depicted in Refuge reminds us that bridges can be built where walls once stood and that healing is possible when we choose to see humanity in one another.

Registration is free, and you can sign up by clicking the link below:

The tragedies of the past month highlight the need for our work and advocacy. 37 people shot over a four day period in Atlanta, mass shootings at Ft. Stewart and near Emory. Each shooting adds multiple Georgians to the ranks of those impacted by gun violence; lives lost, others forever changed, and countless others left with lasting trauma and grief. Georgia’s rate of gun violence is among the highest in the country because our gun safety laws are among the weakest (see the rankings) - we must continue to pressure our legislature to pass the foundational gun safety laws that reduce gun violence rates in other states.

Here’s what you can do:

1. Write a letter to your local paper. We submitted a guest essay (read here) to the AJC that we expect to be published this week, but there are many outlets that reach audiences throughout the state. Submit a letter or a guest essay to your local paper. Keep it short and in your own words.

2. Send postcards to state leaders. Postcards are most impactful, but e-mails and calls also work. We will have postcards available at the rally tomorrow or use your own. Here is a list of House leaders, addresses and sample messages.

3. Attend our rally and press conference on Tuesday at 6pm. Location TBD, but it will be close to Emory. We will update the flyer below with location details and share on Instagram (). Please attend and share with others.
