Tell your senators to end discrimination against Sikhs. Only three Sikhs – Maj. Kamaljeet Singh Kalsi, Capt. Tejdeep Singh Rattan, and Cpl. Simran Preet Singh Lamba – have received rare permission to serve in the U.S. Army while maintaining their articles of faith.

Under new Pentagon rules adopted last January, current and future Sikh service members may even be required to remove their turbans, cut their hair, and shave their beards in violation of their religion while their accommodation requests are pending.

Yesterday, Sikhs around the world celebrated the birth of their fourth guru, Guru Ramdas; who founded the city of Amritsar and started construction of the Golden Temple complex, one of the most prominent places of worship for Sikhs. Around 150,000 people from all over the world came to the Golden Temple to celebrate together.

Oct. 9 is one of the most important dates in the Sikh calendar, when followers celebrate the birth of Guru Ramdas, the man who gave the religion a spiritual home.

A beautiful story of compassion and love towards a Sikh American.

I strongly feel that human civilization is still surviving due to the deeds and thoughts of such few people.Though nothing to do with America, I had a similar experience when a random person gave me a free ride when I was struggling to walk on the sidewalk in a foreign country.
