While nothing can replace the years that were stolen, we're glad to see these Wrongful Conviction and Incarceration Compensation payments starting to be made. After over four years of advocacy, this policy win becoming tangible support for people who have been wrongfully convicted and wrongfully incarcerated in Georgia is meaningful. Congratulations to Brandon Pugh on his freedom, and to his attorneys for their relentless work! This is what responsibility looks like: when prosecutors are presented with evidence of a wrongful conviction and choose to do the right thing. Georgia Innocence Project is honored to have played a small role by providing a letter of support, laying out the wrongful conviction factors present in Mr. Pugh's case, and the resulting reasons to doubt the validity of his conviction.

A recent investigation showed he did not know the man who admitted to the robbery, and red ink they found on him was not bank dye.

A wrongfully convicted man is free after Douglas County District Attorney Dahlia Racine secured the total exoneration of Brandon Pugh, who spent 16 years in prison for an armed bank robbery he did not commit.
