NOMAtlanta mourns the passing of one of our legacy members and past NOMAtlanta President, Carl Benjamin Trimble. A Navy veteran, Carl was a pioneering architect, educator, advocate, and longtime leader in the NOMA and NOMAtlanta community.
Carl dedicated his life to architecture and to expanding access and opportunity within it. He advocated for greater opportunities for minority architects and firms, while building a remarkable career that touched communities across Atlanta through projects such as the Grady Hospital expansion, Stuffer’s Hotel, and the North Springs MARTA Station.
Carl’s legacy extends far beyond the buildings he designed. He was a mentor, teacher, and champion for generations of architects who followed. He understood that architecture was not only about what we build, but who gets the opportunity to build, who gets a seat at the table, and whom we bring along with us.
We are grateful for the foundation Carl helped build, and for the doors he worked to open for those who came after him. His impact lives on in the architects he mentored, the communities he served, and the profession he worked tirelessly to make more accessible.
Thank you, Carl, for helping build the path for us to follow.
Funeral services will be held on October 3, 2026, at 2:00PM at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 3050 Cascade Road SW, Atlanta, Georgia 30311.
A special Proclamation honoring Carl will be held on Monday, October 5th, at Atlanta City Hall. Join friends and family for this honor and a reception to follow.
