Fathers Incorporated is honored to stand with 4Kira4Dads, 4Kira4Moms, Congresswoman Nikema Williams’ office, Representative Lauren Underwood, and the Black Maternal Health Caucus for the 3rd Annual Dads Got Something to Say! Congressional Briefing in Washington, D.C.

This year’s theme, Fathers in Service of Mothers, Demanding Maternal Health Equity, speaks directly to what we believe: fathers must be present not only in the lives of their children, but also in the conversations, systems, and policies that protect mothers and strengthen families.

Kenneth Braswell, CEO of Fathers Incorporated and Director of the National Responsible Fatherhood Clearinghouse, is proud to serve as an Official Dadvocate for this important gathering.

The argument against Georgia’s legitimation structure has often been framed around access: Fathers need the ability to parent, visit, make decisions, and participate. That remains true. But a recent JAMA Pediatrics paper on paternal mortality forces us to add another layer.

In the event of paternal death, legitimation is a child protection issue. It’s about what remains legally intact when a father is no longer alive to argue, petition, explain, prove, or correct the record.

Everyone has an opinion about mothers raising sons. 🤷🏽 However, as GRIFF reminded us recently, many mothers aren’t trying to replace fathers because they want to but because they feel they have no other option.

In “Cats & Puppies,” Griff reflects on motherhood, fatherhood, and the tension between raising boys and understanding men. The book is Griff’s love letter to his own mother, a woman who raised him with toughness, wisdom, sarcasm, resilience, and survival instincts after navigating life without the protection of a present father herself. And when we talked with him for our I Am Dad Podcast, Griff refused to place blame around father absence, turning repeatedly to grace instead.

Here's what all of us can learn from his journey: https://bit.ly/43qC6nj

The stakes for Dad & Company are high! When fathers and their parenting teams are in sync, children benefit from more consistency 👏 less confusion 👏 and a stronger circle of care. 👏

Co-parenting can be a BRIDGE to father involvement or a BARRIER. The difference? Communication, trust, and shared purpose. And this is where Dad & Company comes in. Our team recently brought its full attention to this new curriculum, and we’re so excited about the impact it’s going to have on fathers and families in our community.

Child support enforcement tools exist for a reason. There are parents who can pay but refuse to do so, and a child should not suffer because adults decide to disappear behind convenience, pride, resentment, or avoidance.

This isn’t an argument AGAINST child support. It’s an argument FOR a smarter child support system. Rather than focusing on passport revocation as part of HHS's new enforcement posture, child support reform must look beyond penalties. Yes, we should enforce support obligations, but we should also:

- Expand payment plans that account for actual income
- Improve access to order modification
- Reduce uncollectible state-owed arrears
- Limit accrual of interest
- Protect employment
- Fund fatherhood and workforce programs
- Connect child support proceedings to parenting time when safe and appropriate
- Make legal education available
