This Week in Atlanta is a cumulative effort from the CCI team. Every week, we attend meetings for the City of Atlanta, Atlanta Public Schools, DeKalb and Fulton counties, and more — from general meetings to committee work sessions to public hearings. And then we report that information back in ways that actually makes sense. To support this work, go to civicatlanta.org/donate.

A coalition of policy and research organizations in Atlanta are calling on our City Council to wait for the City Auditor to publish their independent audit of the Tax Allocation Districts before voting on a proposal to extend them until 2055. This is not about being for or against TADs. This is about wanting our city to make informed, evidence-based decisions that will have a rippling effect on our city for generations to come.

Mayor Dickens's administration is moving to extend Atlanta's Tax Allocation Districts (TADs), and the Atlanta Board of Education will likely be asked to vote on it soon. The outcome will shape APS funding for decades to come. APS estimates it will have lost $2 billion in revenue if the TADs expire, and School Board Vice Chair Ken Zeff has warned that extending the Beltline TAD alone could cost APS $80 million per year.

We're bringing together APS Board members, district leadership, and policy experts to make sense of what's at stake.

Jessica Johnson, APS Board Chair
Dr. Ken Zeff, APS Board Vice Chair
Dr. Lisa Bracken, CFO for APS
Dr. Alex Camardelle, Kindred Futures
Dr. Stephen Owens, education policy expert
