With Spring around the corner, as you start sorting through your garden supplies, you might find you have a few (or a lot…or a whole lot!) of old plastic pots. If you can’t reuse them, should you toss them? Put them in with your regular plastics recycling?

No and no!

Plastic planters do not go in your curbside bin or in the County Recycling Centers’ plastics bin. However both Home Depot and Lowes accept them at their garden centers. And they can be recycled through the Hefty ReNew Program at the County Recycling Centers. Details here https://bit.ly/3OVw0VQ

Thank you for recycling right! 😊

See the list of invasive plants in the Atlanta area.

Unfortunately, this is only a small number of the invasive plant species that outcompete native plants and degrade habitat in our forests and green spaces around Atlanta. These plants are all popular in landscaping and widely planted, which has accelerated their spread into natural areas.

For more comprehensive lists of the invasive plant species that are causing harm in our city and state, visit these sites:

Green Cell can help build a composting bin for you!

Green Cell volunteers built another Community Composting Bin in a neighborhood in Johns Creek. Easy to build, operate and
maintain, these bins provide a great opportunity to friends & neighbors to responsibly dispose organic waste from their homes.
Each emptying of the composter (probably 3-4 times a year) removes ~1,000 lbs of CO2 from the environment. It will take 21 mature trees a whole year to do this and you will be doing that in a 2-3 months with 10 min or less per week.
You will need to recruit some neighbors to drop off their kitchen scraps in your composter. You will be helping yourself with no-hassle composting, helping your neighbors as well!

Please step up to help yourself, your neighbors and the larger community. Please reach out to us at 404-594-1555 or [email protected] if you would like to get a compost bin in your backyard/neighborhood!

This Earth Day, we’re thrilled to share the incredible success of our recent collaboration with Emory University and the Eri Saikawa Lab. 🌱🎓 Over a span of three weeks, more than 100 bright middle and high school students from across the nation came together to innovate and solve environmental challenges at our Environmental Hackathon. 🧠💡

The creativity and dedication of these young minds were truly inspiring! Winners were announced in a special ceremony at Emory University on Sunday, April 21st. 🏆🎉

We’re so proud of all the participants and grateful for the opportunity to nurture the next generation of environmental leaders. A big thank you to everyone involved, and let’s continue to work together for a healthier planet! 🌏❤️

🎉 Exciting News from Green Cell ATL 🌱 This weekend, we had the honor of presenting the Green Cell Presidential Service Awards and Green Cell Volunteer Service Awards to our incredible adult and youth volunteers!

We had incredible speakers - Erin Stieglitz from Bagel Rescue, Marilynn Martinez from PRISM, and Arvind and the team presenting their winning Future City Championship project.

Witnessing our volunteers accept their awards with pride was an absolute joy! Their dedication and selfless contributions are the backbone of our success. A massive thank you to all our volunteers - we couldn't do it without you! 💚
