Before Atlanta became a World Cup city, it was the birthplace of youth soccer in America.
 
More than 50 years ago, our Decatur Family YMCA and the Atlanta Chiefs introduced a little-known sport to local kids on a field in Decatur. What started as a community effort grew into one of the nation’s first organized youth soccer leagues and helped shape the game for generations to come. Today, soccer is one of the most popular youth sports in the United States, and hundreds of thousands of children play YMCA soccer each year.
 
It’s a remarkable piece of Atlanta history, and it started right here at the Y.
